"Ice?" I asked the boy across from me as Jane and I hauled him to a vacant seat. His dark brown hair was messy and tattered, forehead laced with sweat and his shiner glistening against the florescent lighting. Warm green eyes trailed the ground before looking right into my eyes.
"Yes please," he managed to strain out.
Walking over to the refrigerator, I pulled out a bag of ice and made my way back to him. Handing him the ice pack, I watched as he moaned in relief. The pain subsiding thanks to this small bag of frozen water. I watch him for a little while before I decided to say something. Though Jane unfortunately beat me to the punch.
"Grey Lovato, you are by far the most idiotic boy in the world," Jane retorted with a small shake of her head. Jane was out of her uniform and into a plain white t-shirt and a pair of khakis. After tonight's incident, Joe was closing shop early so Jane was pretty happy to see her kids before they went to bed.
"I couldn't agree more," I said with an eye roll. Around nine thirty, a bunch of drunks started waltzing into the coffee shop slurring profanities and causing a riot. One of them tried hitting on Jane and I decided to intervene and ask them nicely to get out.
Of course, pleasantries didn't work. Especially when one of them decided to turn their lust filled desires onto me. Grey being the superhero he thought he was, was directing their attention onto him. After a quick, but intense argument, one of them punched the lights right out of Grey knocking him out cold. Soon a couple of other employees were able to get into this fight and kick the drunks out. Joe decided that we should all go home early while it was still safe.
Grey ran a hand through his dark hair, "that was completely humiliating," he replied.
"And dangerous," I added, "you could've been seriously hurt."
"I was knocked out cold," Grey spat out, "I'd rather be seriously hurt than knocked out by one punch...from someone who was seeing double nonetheless." Muttering a couple of profanities under his breath, Jane offered Grey a ride back home to which he said yes to. Grey's transportation to and from work was a mountain bike. I guess Jane was worried that the men might come back for round two and finish what they started.
"Will you be safe by yourself?" Jane questioned as she grabbed her coat.
"Yes, I just need to wipe down the counter and I'll be out," I reassured her. Watching Jane walk out, Grey sent me a small wave before following Jane's retreating footsteps. Letting out a small breath, I grabbed a lone cloth and dabbed a little water into it before swabbing down the counter. Squeezing out the excess water, I tossed the rag off to the side and rinsed my hands.
Grabbing my bag, I turned off all the lights and tug inside my bag from the kids to the store. Pulling out a small, silver key, I stepped outside the store and locked the shop. Heading to my car, my heart froze at the sound of someone moaning.
"Help," the voice practically whispered out. Loud enough for me to hear their distress...or prank. Pulling out my mace, I followed the sound of low moans and whispers of help. Standing ten feet in front of me was a lump that soon started to look like a body as I approached it. I threw all caution to the wind as I clutched the mace and jogged over to the body.
It was a boy who was wearing all black. As I took a good look at him, I noticed how kind of handsome he was. Light blonde hair was a disheveled mess along with his clothes. His eyes were closed so I couldn't decipher the color of his eyes. As my eyes trailed down, I couldn't help but let a small scream out at the sight of a dark liquid growing larger and larger by the minute.
At my small scream, the boy's eyes flew open. A pair of dark blue eyes stared right at me and I involuntarily backed up afraid that he might leap up, injury free and attack me. "Help me," the boy hissed out a little louder before his blue eyes rolled in the back of his head. Panicking, I quickly rested my head over his heart and held my breath, waiting for the heartbeat to let me know that he was still alive.
