Can't get Involved

Chapter One

This is my first fanfic. Writing is a small hobby of mine that I have never really had motivation to do so I've always put it off. I read about this Ereri AU on IFunny and quite a few people have encouraged me to write it. So, here I am. I apologize if there are any mistakes. Enjoy!

~Eren POV~

"Wake up, Eren!" I open my eyes slightly to see Mikasa standing over me with a tight grip on my arm. I immediately close them when I realize she has her phones flashlight shining directly in my eyes. I lay there for a second feeling her grip tighten.

I hate to admit it but, my sister is stronger than me. After our mom died she decided she needed to protect me. She grew up having to take care of me, even though she was younger. Our father was always gone due to work. I didn't hate him for it, he couldn't help it after all. He works at a hospital as one of the main doctors. He got transferred there because of his  'great skills' and 'amazing talent' as he put it. He sent us money the first year after we were left alone. We mostly used it to pay rent and food. A while after Mikasa got a well paying job and I started the clinic, we were able to pay for it ourselves. He still sent us money anyway, he was pretty stubborn and was just giving us support.

"Eren!" I open my eyes once again to show her I was awake and that she could stop yelling. She had a loud voice and never was able to control it. We've had the cops show up to our door about a noise complaint multiple times. It got to the point where the police station asked what her phone number was and just called to tell her to stop yelling.

"Mikasa, why are you yelling? It's-"

"One in the morning, I know." I stare at her hoping an explanation would follow, but it never came.

"What do you need at one in the morning?" I pry her fingers off of my arm, watching my skin turn red where her claws were just a moment ago.

"I got home from work 20 minutes ago and I couldn't find you! You scared me half to death! Why were you laying on the bathroom floor? Did you pass out again? I told you to hire more people so you don't have to work so much!" I look up to see I'm on the couch. The moonlight shining through the window making the living room glow a dark blue.

"Yeah, yeah. I've heard this a million times." I roll over so I'm facing the back of the couch. I honestly wanted her to leave me alone. I was tired, I haven't gotten a full night's sleep in the past three days.

I hear her sigh as she gets up to leave. Thank god, she already lectures me enough. I know she's just trying to do what's best for me but she needs to give it a rest.

She stops at the doorway and pauses a moment before saying, "The clinic called you a couple times, it must be something important."

"Why didn't you tell me?" I shot straight up and right as a did, my phone started ringing. I fumbled around with my jacket trying to figure out which pocket it was in when I heard a thud. 'There it is' I thought to myself before reaching down to pick it up. It was the clinic calling again. I hit the answer button and put the phone up to my ear.

"Hel-"

"Eren!!!" My phone flew across the room at lightning speed. I was not expecting her to be calling from the front desk. I pick up my phone hoping she was done with her screaming. I was usually used to it at the clinic but I was caught off guard. I usually have to mentally prepare myself to deal with her all day.

"Hanji...what do you need? It's my day off." I sigh loud enough for her to possibly get a clue and tell me it's nothing. I just wanted to sleep.

"Well, you see, we are short on staff and need you to come in for a few hours until Petra can get here."

"Alright, I'll be there soon."

So here is the first chapter. I hope you guys like it. If I have made any grammar mistakes please point them out so I can fix them. Comment what you thought about this chapter! It  ended up being 666 words...I don't think that's a good sign. Should I start the next chapter with Levi's POV? Or should I stay with Eren until he gets to the clinic? Do you want me to make anything about the characters different than they are in AOT? I have read some fanfics where Levi is taller than Eren or that Eren is older than Levi. I personally like keeping the characters the same. I hope you guys enjoyed the first chapter!
