I didn't plan where I was going to go for a walk. I only felt like I needed to stretch my legs, so when I came across the woods, I thought to myself "Hey, why not take a nice walk in the woods to clear my mind?" Old autumn leaves crunched beneath my feet and the musky smell of pine hung around. As I was wallowing in mud, about to turn back, I could hear a faint sloshing sound.
Waves?
I run towards the distinctive sound. As I got to the clearing, what I saw was breathtakingly beautiful. There was a large, crystal-clear lake, the autumn leaves contrasting the lake creating a peaceful atmosphere. In the middle of the lake was a small island. On the island was an old-fashioned cottage, surrounded by powder pink cherry blossom trees. Leading onto the island was a make-shift bridge, the damp, rotten wood making a soft, squidgy sound as I gingerly stepped on it. I was thinking that the bridge kind of destroyed the peaceful atmosphere, as I was risking walking on the bridge.
I knew I was lost when I ran to the sound of waves. I figured that I could always ask for help from the resident of the cottage. When the damp wood under my feet was replaced by soft mud, I could see the cottage more clearly. It looked more aged when up close, with the windows boarded up and the wood slowly decaying decade after decade. I went to knock on the door, the cherry blossoms whispering in the wind and gravel crunching under my feet.
I smartly knocked on the door, the door hinges creaking with every rap of my knuckles. I waited for an answer. Nothing. I knocked again, a little more deafening that the last series of knocks. Still nothing. I grasped my palm on the cutting, bleak door knob and, to my complete surprise, it was unlocked. I swung the door open, hinges creaking in the process, and the first thing I noticed was a foul odour. I grasp my jumper sleeve to my nose as the stench was unbearable.
If the outside didn't already look abandoned and run-down, then the inside definitely did. The walls had dents engraved in the plasterboard. Light seeped through the boarded windows and shone against a broken light-bulb. I looked down the corridor and saw a small, patchy path of a dark red substance.
Was it blood?
I started to trail the mysterious blood-like path, gazing into each room. A small living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. They all looked grubby and needed a good clean. I got to the end of the corridor, where their was a room closed off and the trail ended. This smelt like where the origin of the foul stench. I took as deep of a breath my lungs could carry, mustered up my courage and opened the door.
Blood.
A lot of blood. Flies flew everywhere, gathered in large clumps on the floor. There was, what looked liked, a large lump of meat. Upon further examination, I saw the meat had limbs. Oh no. It was horrific when reality hit me. It was a body. A dead mutilated body. I was about to scream bloody murder when I heard the front door bang open.
Oh God no.
The owner of the house arrived. I heard It go into the front room. Quickly and quietly, I ran across the corridor to the bedroom. I left the the door to, what I thought was, hell so It would go in there first. I was correct to think that, as It went into that room and slammed the door. Gingerly, I opened the door to find a fresh blood trail leading to that room. Horrified and shaking so badly, I crept towards the front door , being careful not to step on any creaky floorboards. I got to the front door, opened it and, looking back at the hell-hole I stumbled across in the woods, ran out.
I never went in the woods again.

Until then,
