"Wake up, we can't be late!" Jay shouted across the room.
I turned sides and continued sleeping while trying my best not to think about it. We had an important meeting with 'someone special', as Jay told me. This meeting was supposed to be some type of investigation, except were was not a part of it. We were going to see and hear everything that went on between the officials and my family but could not participate. I was curious to know if the whole story was told correctly.
When I died I had decided to stay down on Earth until my death was accounted for and the world found out about my real murderers. I had a choice to either stay or go to God, where I would have to stay permanently.
Jay died just moments after I had and joined me in becoming immortal. We were dead so we could never die again unless if we relived our death, while dead. I met Jay here and we became friends almost instantly. He committed suicide so he did not need to investigate anything. He has agreed to help me solve m mystery. I was uncertain about the entire plan and execution of my murder however, I do know why I was killed.
I felt cold water droplets on my face, slowly sprinkling down. One landed right on my eyelid causing me to wake up. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Jay standing over me with a glass of cold water, trying to wake me up.
"If we miss this, we'll miss an important part of our goal" Jay explained.
"goal?"
"yeah, to find out about your murderers and prove they're guilty"
"not like we can talk or anything, we just sit and listen"
"just get ready will you?" Jay turned around and headed downstairs.
I jumped out of my bed and headed outside. We stayed together on a small abandoned flat just outside of the busy city. Since I was dead, I did not have to take a shower nor did I have to go to the bathroom. I did not own anything except for my soul. I did not have an appearance nor does Jay.
Jay gestured at me, "Hurry up!"
I ran into the elevator and down 28 stories to get out and into the parking lot where Jay was standing.
No one could see us except for other ghosts down here on Earth. There were very few of us since most decide to go up to God an enjoy the great luxuries in heaven.
"Taking the bus again?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course" Jay answered.
Both of us could no longer drive since we were ghosts. People would think a car was driving itself if they saw a car with no driver. We just hung onto the back of the bus and went wherever we wanted.
Life is fun this way.
We arrived at the investigator's office on the other side of the city. It was a tall building covered with glass windows. It has about 56 stories, we took the elevator to the 6 story.
We walked through a dimly lit hallway which led to his room. His desk had a couple of files, some stationary, and a name plat reading "M. Gage". He was a short, fat man who wore a black tuxedo and brown tie.
Across him sat my parents and some other relatives. We stood quietly in a corner listening to the conversation.
"It is great to see you all here today. I have a few question I would like to ask, in hope to get rid of some doubts I may have" said Gage.
He continued, "First, I would like to hear your sides of the story. Mrs. Sidhu?"
My mom began to tell what she knew about the murder. Some moments later, my dad explained his point of view along with my aunt and uncle. Both of which I was unsure of.
"If I am correct, she was murdered at 2:36 in the morning... right?"
"That is exactly what I heard" My mom responded.
"And you were here in Canada?"
"Yes Sir, I was here in Vancouver while my wife was in Calgary" my dad replied.
"Why was Preet alone in India? Did she not need you with her?"
"Her Grandma had gotten quite ill and needed us here. We left her there to enjoy the wedding while we stayed with her Grandma"
"OK... She was alone for how long?"
"A month and a half"
"Was there anything she was hiding from you? Any personal problems?"
"Not that we know of. She was happy with the marriage plans we had made for her"
"Marriage plans?"
"Yes Sir, we had found the perfect man for her. He was her cousins friend. She was very excited when we had informed her"
"Informed her over the phone? Was she to get married without you?"
"No we were going to go for the major ceremonies"
"And she had no problem with that..."
"No sir"
"How long before her death had she contacted you before her death?"
"That same evening"
"I have her cellphone with me and it says you called her an hour before from your house phone"
"House? We had gotten our land line cut off the day before"
"Her cellphone shows that she was on the phone at the time of her death. Do you know who she may have been talking to?"
"Since it was late at night, maybe the boy we had chosen for her or a friend"
"OK, OK"
He thought for a moment and flipped through many pages in his folder.
Gage continued his questions by moving on to my uncle and then my aunt.
"Where you really on your phone?" Jay whispered into my ear.
"Yeah, with my mom... she lied" I mumbled as my heart raced.
"But why would she lie?" Jay asked.
"Many reasons..."
