It all started one cold, snowy winter morning. The wind was striking against Sophia's window. And the snow was ever so gently falling on the almost dead grass. But winter has finally begun.

"Sophia darling, can you get Penelope and Luke and tell them to come down for breakfast?" Sophia's sweet mother asked, ever so gently.

"Yes mother, would you like Penelope and I to get into our dresses, aprons, and bonnets? And would you like Luke to get dressed also? Sophia replies and asks her mother.

"Yes darling, and try to hurry up. We have a big day planned." Katrina answers.

"Is it going to be a fun day or a cleaning day?" Sophia asked her mother with reasoning in her voice.

"It is going to be a cleaning day, I apologize darling but we have to clean up the snow and you know very well that you are 17 and you are now eligible to take on more responsibilities like any other Amish woman!" Her mother says with anger in her tone.

"I apologize mother I didn't mean to be rude, I was just curious. I have a lot of other homework to do and studies to catch up on." Sophia replies as kindly as she can.

"I know, but you shouldn't be lacking in studies. When I was 17 and on my last year of school I had everything planned out perfectly.

Little ways after the children were dressed and had a proper breakfast , consisting of bacon, toast, and eggs, they went out into the cold air for today's work.

Sophia was assigned to milk the cows, collect the chicken's eggs, and sew 4 children's dresses, aprons, and bonnets. She was told that once she finished all of the listed tasks, then she could finally start her homework. Penelope was assigned to prepare the meals for he day and care after the children. After all she was 20 and needed to be ready to have children, one soon day. And finally Luke, of age 9 was assigned to plow the fields, not covered in snow, and plow the snow off of the roads and nearby  land.

After a long 8.5 hours of work, Sophia finished her assigned tasks. And when she was about to start her homework her "loving" sister asks her to help with preparing supper. But of course Sophia couldn't say no because her father was right there.

"Yes, Sophia would love to help you prepare supper." Paul responds for Sophia.

"But father I have lots of studies and mother said that once I am finished with my assigned task I can work on my studies!" Sophia says with anger raging through her.

"Did you finish your assigned task? Because I clearly remember me just telling you to help Penelope prepare supper. Did I not?" Paul says with pride and confidence.

"Yes, you did tell me. But-" Sophia tries to explain but her father cuts her off.

"No buts, when I tell you to do something I mean it. Now off your go." Says Paul.

"Yes father."

After a long 2 hours of cooking, cleaning and eating, Sophia can finally go to homework. But the time is 8:45 so she would get 15 minutes to do homework. So she decides to go downstairs and get her books anyway.

"Darling, go get your nightgown on and come say good night." Sophia's mother replies.

"Okay mother. All plans ruined!!!" Sophia mumbles under her breath.
