My life is a wreck but no one seems to notice they just look at me a walk away like I'm a nobody I mean nothing to anyone not even my family. I had a rough childhood when I was 7 years old my mum passed away she was killed in a car accident it was all my fault I was staying at a friends house and I wanted to stay an extra night when mum was coming to pick me up the next morning it happened she collided with a truck and was killed instantly. If I didn't stay an extra night it never would have happened.
My dad is heartless e has chosen not to forgive me and everyday he punishes me either by sexually assaulting me or physically abusing me. Some nights if he's really angry or if he's been out drinking he even makes me sleep in a cupboard.
The kids at school see all my bruises see the hurt in my eyes but still no one seems to care. I am in 10th grade I don't really have any friends so I can't talk to anyone about my issues and I know if I saw a councillor they would tell my father and that would end in several beatings and nights in the cupboard.
I am depressed I self harm. I sometimes steal my dad's alcohol so I can make it through the day if I don't cut myself. Being depressed is hard it's like drowning with no hope of finding the surface. It's like walking down a dark hallway and you don't know if you'll ever find light. But the cutting and drinking helps me through.
Tomorrow school starts again I will be an 11th grader. I like school it's gets me away from the bad life I'm living it reminds me that not everything is getting beat up or raped when I see people with their friends happy or people with their boyfriends in love it reminds me that there is a chance I will get through this I don't know how or when but maybe one day.
My name is Leah Hughes and this I'm my story.
