The next day was my day to leave. When the sun was beginning to rise, my family and I left the den and walked towards the end of the clearing. I was finally leaving, I was ready, and I mean I'd been dreaming about this forever. I looked back at Momma and Papa "Wish me luck." I said smiling. "Kanji!" I head little feet pattering right before I walked out of the clearing, I turned around, seeing Tsuki running towards me. "Kanji, wait!" she said out of breath "I wanted to say good bye." I smiled at that. "Good bye Kanji!" She squeaked. "Bye Tsuki. I'll miss you." I said, then turned around and left the clearing.
A couple months later, I was by a riverside in the forest, quenching my thirst from exploring. The birds were chirping as the autumn leaves were falling from the heads of the giants that always surrounded me. I was still feared by new creatures that I met, and that was the only thing that tormented me on my journey. I wanted to prove that I wasn't dangerous, that I was trust worthy and not there to harm others. I wanted to protect others not harm them, I just wish others knew that. As I wondered through the forest I could hear a bunch of noise and what sounded like a troubled beaver, yelling. "YOU SHHHNEAKY GOOD FOR NOTHING REYNARD!! GET OUT OF HERE AND SHHHTOP MEDALING WITH MY POSSESHHHIONS!" I heard the beaver yell as I popped my head out from a couple bushes. What I saw was something I never even dreamed of seeing. In front of me was a fox who looked a lot like I did, he was a little bigger than me, and his fur was a slightly lighter red crimson color than mine, instead of black markings like mine, his were grey. He had a devilish smile on his face as he jumped from side to side with a stick in his mouth, laughing as hard as a hyena. "Ya gotta catch me first, buck tooth!" he chanted childishly, as he gracefully avoided the beavers grasp. "WHY I OUTTA!" the beaver yelled angrily, desperately trying to catch the young Reynard causing him trouble. As I watched, I started to giggle a bit. He acted like a child, yet he was obviously smart enough to not get caught. I wanted to meet him. Then I had an idea pop into my head.
I jumped out of the bushes, dashing up towards the two who were causing such a ruckus at the time. The beaver saw me, and quickly scattered out of the way, fearful that I would run into him. The guy that was tormenting him looked up for a second just long enough for me to take the stick from his snout, and quickly climb up the tree he was under. "What the.....who...what the hell was that?!?" he shouted, clearly confused. I giggled as I agilely walked across the branch right above his head. "You're a little clueless, aren't you?" I teased, keeping the stick in my mouth. He looked up, seeing me laying lazily on the branch above him with the stick he previously had taken from the beaver. "Holy! How the hell did you get up there so fast?" he asked honestly amazed by my speed. "I climbed the braches. Obviously." I replied, playfully rolling my eyes. That's when the beaver came to his senses and looked up at me in the tree. "HEY, YOU GIVE THAT........" he stopped, looking at my blood red fur and black markings, "...A...a...Akama!" he yelled, and quickly scurried off back into his dam.
I frowned, ever since I left the clearing, creatures that meet me have been calling me that, Akama, or blood demon. One look at the color of my fur, and they would instantly be afraid. I sighed, and jumped out of the tree, putting the stick down. "Guess my funs over." the fox said, looking towards where the beaver ran. "You're pretty damn fast, you know that?" he said looking back at me. I shrugged, "I guess I do know." I was being cold, I knew that, but I was so use to being feared and hated just because I was a little different than everyone else. So I taught myself not to get close with anyone I met, in case they became afraid of me, and left me. The last person I trusted, left me as bate for a bear they angered. I refuse to go through that again. I started to walk off, trying to avoid having another person fear me.
"H-hey! Wait up!" I heard him yell after me. I stopped and looked back "Is there something you need?" I asked sounding slightly annoyed. "Yeah, like how did you run so fast? Also, why the sudden cold shoulder?" he asked curiously, tilting his head to the side slightly. "I don't know how I run fast, I have always run like that. As for your second question, I don't like getting close to people, I just end up getting hurt." I said, turning around to face him. "Sorry." I said. He looked at me with a curious look that quickly turned into a look of empathy and sadness. "I understand that. It's because of your fur color right?" he said looking me up and down. I nodded a yes, "Others are always afraid of me, calling me Akama. I hate it." I said bitterly, looking down at my front paws. "I'm Sasori." he said. "And don't worry, I like you fur color. I got abandoned for mine, so you aren't alone." I looked up, he was being so nice to me, and it was almost like he knew how I felt. "I'm Kanji." I said looking him in the eyes. "Nice to meet you." He smiled, and when he did, I could see a small curve in one of his teeth. That's also when I realized how close we were to each other.
Not only did I notice that he had a slight chip in one tooth, but he also had a bunch of tiny scars on each cheek. The fur on his head was really shaggy, just a little shorter than a lion's main, and only on the top of his head. He was kind of cute. "Kanji, huh?" he asked "That's a really nice name. I like it!" I smiled, he was so happy about nothing, I couldn't help it. "So is Sasori. It's very interesting." I replied. "Thanks!" he said. "Hey, are you on your own?" I nodded "Yeah, I wanted to explore the forest so my parents let me leave." He nodded, thinking about something "May I ask how old you are?" he looked at me as he asked, his head slightly tilted again as I replied "I'm sixteen. You?" "I'm fifteen." he answered. I nodded, as the awkward silence fell over us. "Do you maybe.....want to explore together?" he asked carefully. I looked up at him again, a glint of hope in my eyes. Was he being serious? Did he really want to travel with me? "Are you being serious?" I asked. "Yeah, I mean, we are both on our own, why not travel together?" he said. "I would love to travel with you." I said slightly excited. "AWESOME!!" he cheered loudly, jumping up and down. I laughed again because of how childish he was acting. I loved it! "Well, let's go then! Come on Kanji" he said. "Okay, I'm coming Sasori!" I said and we quickly climbed the trees and started our travel through the forest.
