Tween Going On Teen

(A Diary Novel) PROLOGUE

"Whee-e-e-e-e!" I squealed as Buttercup soared over another rainbow.

I grinned down at her, admiration sparkling in my eyes. Her mane shone with all the colours of the spectrum and shimmered in the light, the colors flowing like a river. Her one horn was silver with a sparkly glaze. I wove my fingers into her soft, thick white hair and she whinnied happily. The calm wind rippled through my own brunette mob, the strands hitting my face.

Buttercup continued to gallop through thin air, then jumped over a rainbow, slowly coming to a halt in front of a soft-looking white cloud, about the size of a beanbag.

An elf with golden locks framing an adorable, red-cheeked, child-like face stood upon the cloud, smiling jovially.

"Good day, Christine," he trilled in a high-pitched voice, his small hands clasped in front of his green waistcoat.

 "Funny," I said, cocking my head in confusion, still clinging onto my faithful unicorn, "I didn't think people could stand on clouds."

The elf smiled politely and raised his petite right hand to my face, a hair-breadths away, hovering over the flushed left cheek. Much to my confusion, he swung back, as if he was up to bat in a baseball match,  and....

SLAPPED!

~~~
"Wha-?!" I screamed, throwing my head up immediately, eyes flying open.
An eruption of laughter cascaded into my unexpecting ears all at once and that, my friends, was when I realised I had fallen asleep in class.
Again.
Poo.
My cheek burned so bad!  Rubbing it tenderly, my eyes narrowed on Tamzan, sitting innocently in her seat beside me, a small smirk on her face.
Is it strange to want to strangle your best friend until her neck is long enough to use as a skipping rope?  I hope not.
"Mrs. Jenkinson told me to," she giggled, shrugging innocently as her strawberry-blonde ringlets bounced on her shoulders. That's not exactly what friends are for, I thought bitterly. Her smile showed what she called 'goofy' teeth, and she sat oddly on her chair, with her knees facing me instead of the front of the class.
Tamzan and I would be very alike, if she was shy that is. She's the most outgoing person I know that can put up with me (talk for "that is my friend"); she's even been thrown out of a shop for dancing with a mannequin in the lingerie section. According to Rita (her bestie, my friend), she was also singing 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars extremely loud at the same time. I can't blame the security guard for his actions; let's just say, Tamzan isn't exactly the best singer in the world. I'm still emotionally scarred from her 'debut concert'.
The annoyed grumbles made under my breath could not be heard over the incessant laughter of my classmates.
A simple dream about riding a unicorn had turned into a nightmare! Though, at least this wasn't like the time I had a nightmare about a piece of Swiss cheese chasing me. That's what spurred me on to join dancing lessons- nothing gets you on a fitness regime like evil cheese making you exhausted and barking, "Pipsqueak!" at you- even if it is only in a dream.
My dancing career began from when I asked Mum if I could join, and ended around about when I walked in the dancing studio door, when I realised you had to dance around other people. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, if you hadn't noticed. But I'm not too dumb either, if that's what you're thinking!
"Christine? Wakey-wakey?" Mrs. Jenkinson cocked her head towards me, smiling jokingly, a sparkle in her eye.
I wasn't quite sure if she said that because I had just woken up, or because I may have zoned out, thinking about my 'cheese-mare'.  All I knew was, that that little comment sent the class into hysterics! I noticed in front of me, Lily clutching her belly in laughter, her buck-teeth and bottom lip pursed together, in an attempt to contain herself, while several others were pounding the table with their fists. Rita, who sat to the right of me, even seemed to have laughed so hard she was crying!
