Dr. Harding's POV
I was trying to find Audrianna, as she should have been here a few minutes ago. We had an important case today, which I just got this morning. Another hospital had transferred the patient over here.
"Hey have you seen Audrianna?" I asked James as I walked up to him at one of the nurses desks. He looked up and shook his head.
"Nah sorry. I think today I'll ask her" he said, confidently. I patted him on the back.
"Good" I replied, and heard a few familiar voices coming down the hall.
"I can't believe she hid that from us! I mean, she's married? I feel so bad for Liam. We all know how much he liked her" Candice said. I was confused by this information, but didn't think anything of it.
"Hey do you know where Dr. LaCrois is?" I asked.
"Oh she should be down soon. She's talking to the chief right now" Candice asked.
"About what?" I asked confused.
"Her husband just got back last night from overseas trip and he wants to watch her work before he goes on a meeting soon and then back abroad. Oh, he's so nice! He made all of us breakfast this morning with her. Oh they are just so perfect" Candice said, and I looked to James who was pretty darn angry and upset.
"Wait, she is married?" I asked, completely confused.
"Yea, oh there she is right now! Audrianna!" Candice shouted, as Audrianna, the chief and this other guy in full naval uniform came over to us. Audrianna and the guy were holding hands, and she seemed incredibly happy.
"Dr. Harding, Dr. Hudson, this is Captain Brantley, Dr. LaCrois' husband. He will be watching the surgery today from the gallery. Is it still the tumor that was transferred here this morning?" chief asked. I nodded, and both James and I shook the Captain's hand, although I knew how much it pained James to do so.
"Pleasure to meet you, now if you come with me, Dr. LaCrois and Captain Brantley, I can show you the scans that I received this morning" I said, and led them away.
Audrianna's POV
As happy as I was with Ryan, I couldn't miss the look on Dr. Hudson's face. I locked eyes with him, as he looked like a puppy who had been kicked a few times in the mouth. I bit the inside of my cheek, as his eyes were full of disappointment and sadness. I stared a few minutes longer, into those cold icy eyes of his, and then we turned a corner where I could no longer see him.
"So here is the tumor" Dr. Harding said as he showed the scans up on the display light board.
"Wow" I said, as I began to trace the tumor with my eyes.
"How do you think we should handle this, Dr. LaCrois?" Dr. Harding asked.
"Well, if you come in through here, and cut off that over there, then there will be a very good chance of getting it without damaging the hippocampus" I said, and Ryan wrapped his arm around my waist, as a source of praise almost.
"Good. That is how I would have done it. LaCrois, you're going on your own. I'll be in the room, but it's all you today" Dr. Harding said, as my face was in complete shock. My body almost froze, and then there was a tingling feeling throughout my body as excitement coursed through my veins.
This was a huge procedure, extremely important to anyone, and the fact that he was allowing me to do this, was unbelievable. Truly miraculous.
"That would be an honor, Dr. Harding. Thank you" I exclaimed excitedly, as Ryan pulled me even closer to him.
"No problem, now go study" Dr. Harding ordered as I nodded obediently, and started leaving with Ryan, but he had to go to the bathroo and would meet me in a bit.
Dr. Hudson's POV
I was so mad. Furious.
"Dr. Hudson, right?" Captain Brantley said, disrupting my thoughts. I turned around confused.
"Yes sir?" I asked
"You are close with Audrianna right? She has told me a great deal about you, how she really trusts you and looks up to you" he said, catching me off guard. She never talks about anything to anyone, so it was shocking to find out that she trusted me, when all we do is sneak glances at one another. I was extremely, extremely surprised
"Wow, I had no idea.." I said, and he smiled.
"Don't worry, she has a tough shell. If I hadn't known her my whole life, I wouldn't know either. But because of that information I'm telling you, I need you to promise me something" he said, in a serious tone. I nodded, not knowing where this would go.
Here was the guy that was married to the girl of my dreams asking me to promise something about Audrianna. I had no idea what to expect.
"I need you to promise me, that if I die, you will be there. I need you to protect her. She seems very strong, but she is extremely fragile. Audrianna needs support. I don't care what you do, but make sure you keep her happy, even if that means you be with her after my death. I know this sounds like a weird request, but I don't know what will happen after the meeting. Do you understand me?" He asked, looking at me directly in my eyes. I nodded certain.
"I understand, Captain" I replied, and he smiled.
"Good. I will see you later, but do not tell Audrianna that I told you this, but only if necessary" he said, and patted my back, as we left the room.
Audrianna's POv
Ryan came back to see me when I was prepping for surgery. I saw both him and Dr. Hudson come into the room together, and I was a bit confused but thought nothing of it. Ryan was always interested in cardio, so maybe he was just asking about the facility.
Ryan smiled widely at me, as he saw me go to the body and begin working on the skull.
I zoned out the world, like usual, and completed the procedure without any flaws.
After everything was finished, there was loud round of applause which brought me out of my isolation. I looked at the large group of people that gathered in the OR and the gallery. I took a deep breath, and a huge smile was placed onto my face that spread even past the mask. I looked to Ryan, who had small tears in his eyes, which was so nice to see how proud he was of me, as I was of him.
"You did amazing, love" Ryan said, as he picked me up after the surgery and I was all clean, and swung me around in his arms. He loved doing that move, even when I was little. We've known each other our whole lives.
"Thank you love" I replied, and Chief let me go after I did post-op on the patient.
