Chapter two

The next day , Cassandra experienced something entirely new to her , something she had read about many times before , the sun .

After she spent the first night of her life sentence on earth at a park she found shortly after she escaped the police , she started walking again right after she woke up . She didn’t have a specific destination she was heading to but she enjoyed walking beneath the sunlight . Her erstwhile world was suited under the ground so it lacked having a sun as it lacked having a moon .The moon was absent the night before and she hadn’t seen it yet but she was content making acquaintance with the sun .

Only if she knew that her sensitive skin wouldn’t endure the feeble rays of sun for long , her skin that had never been touched by sun before . The blood glucose in her body was already getting too low due to not eating and that was aggravated by the heat her body absorbed from the sun . Her sight started to dizzy at first but in some minutes later a throbbing headache was hammering her head and she found it hard to move her limbs as she walked .

A moving car , that was the last figure her blurred vision could make out before she passed out .

The car stopped before her and a woman in her forties stepped down . Cassandra could feel two of the woman’s fingers slide on her neck as if checking something then she carried her into the car .

A flicker of consciousness returned back to Cassandra as the woman was driving . She tilted her head that was resting on the headrest to see the woman .

" Who are you " Cassandra managed to say in a frail pitch . The woman looked at Cassandra " I found you fainted in the middle of the road " she said and then she abruptly fixed her eyes back on the road .

" Don’t worry " the woman continued " I’m a doctor and I’m taking you to the hospital now "

" Hospital !! " Cassandra murmured .

" Yes " the woman glanced Cassandra " are you lost ? "

The woman waited for an answer but no words came out of Cassandra’s mouth . " anyway , as a procedure , the hospital will call the police and if you’re los.. "

" The police !! " Cassandra interrupted . " No police , stop and get me out of here " her untoward voice came out weak and was combined with panting . After the first encounter she had with the police , she decided it would be better to avoid them .

" hey .. hey .. calm down " the woman pulled over . Cassandra pushed the car’s door but it didn’t open . Cassandra’s reaction to the word police forged the woman’s face in bewilderment . She fixed her sight into Cassandra’s eyes and one of her hands landed over Cassandra’s hair stroking her hair locks .

" Calm down , I’m not calling any police … you just need to be taken care of so just let me "

" no hospital , let me leave please "

" you know what , we don’t have to go to any hospital . I don’t think you have any serious problems , I suspect the fainting is because of exhaustion or maybe because you don’t eat well , when was the last time you ate ? "

" three days ago "

" three days !! "the woman’s eyes widened and her mouse was partly open in surprise  " and drink , when was last time to drink anything ? "

" three days "

Two days before she was exiled , Cassandra refused to eat anything as a way to protest , she accused the court openly of being corrupted during the trail and her pride stopped her from eating from the food they offered her . So that made it three days then since food had found its way to her stomach .

" Oh my god , Thanks God I have found you today , let me get you something to drink now "         

The car’s next stop was before a grocery store where the woman bought food and drink for Cassandra who stayed in the car . When the woman returned to the car , she helped Cassandra eat and drink . waves of energy immediately started to flood into Cassandra’s veins as her stomach absorbed sugar from the food .

" Thank you " Cassandra said , She could feel the state of drowsiness was leaving her and her vision was clearing up .

" you welcome " a smile started to curl at the corners of the woman’s lips as she watched Cassandra sobering up .

" Usually average westerns don’t stand more than three days without drink or food so … I’m really glad I found you" she added . " what’s your name by the way ".

" Cassandra " she turned and looked into the woman’s face as she answered . She could see her face now perfectly after the clouds before her eyes had moved away . Her face was somewhat freckled with blue eyes and black hair .

" nice name . as for me I’m Alison " She said smilingly .

" you know Cassandra , there’s no reason could get you afraid of the police , you’re young and no matter what bad thing you might have done … " she shrugged " the police will help you , it’s better for you , you know "

" I didn’t do anything wrong "

" Then why are you afraid of calling the police . Don’t worry , I’m not calling them , I’m just saying .. "

" I … I am not from here and when I first …" Cassandra started to explain .

" wait , you mean you’re illegally in the united states and should be deported ? " the woman said questioningly . Cassandra had no idea what did that really mean but she just nodded , whatever that was , it sounded as a good way out .

" oh , I see then . You speak in an obvious accent  , where do you come from , Cassandra ? "

" Norway " Cassandra averted her eyes form hers as she lied . She still felt guilty about using her powers and lying the day before , things she had refrained herself from doing before .

" and your parents , are they .. here too ? "

" They are dead "

" Oh , I’m so sorry to hear that " she reached out one hand and laced it with one of Cassandra’s .

" But why wouldn’t you leave back to Norway , you know , living illegally is not something good , especially you’re so young , you need to go to school for instance , maybe you can come back in some years later if you want to live here "

" I can not go back " Cassandra pulled her hand back and whirled to face her again " I have to go , once more , thank you miss Allison for your help " . She tried to push the car’s door open but again it didn’t open , she thought last time it didn’t open because her arms felt weak but then she understood how to get it opened as she watched the woman’s hand open it for her using the door handle .

Once again , She was at the road was no destination to go to . She could use her powers on this woman and force her to help her more till she understood this world better but that didn’t feel right at all to her when the woman was so nice to her .

But after she walked for few minutes , she heard the woman’s voice again " Hey .. Cassandra !! wait " . She turned around to see the woman was hurrying toward her .

" where will you go ? .. or stay ? .. " her face was full of affection . It didn’t take any effort from Cassandra to read it because it was so obvious .Cassandra stood still with straight face , no response came out from her as she had none .

" would you like to come with me , at my place . You can stay with me for some days till you figure out what you will do " the woman’s offered but Cassandra didn’t know what she should say .

" would you come with me " She enunciated .
