I had it all worked out except the most important part. The dress.

How was I supposed to go to a ball when I had one set of clothes that I wore everyday? At this point I wished that I really was Cinderella, so a fairy godmother would come down from the sky to give me the perfect dress.

Suddenly I remembered that there were some gorgeous curtains that we had thrown out this week that would make a beautiful gown. They were a rich blue with white underlays.

I could sew quite well, so the dress was done with time to spare.

My stepmother and stepsisters had already left to have their makeup and hair done for the ball, and then they were heading straight to the palace.

I would have plenty of time to get ready and make sure the house was spotless before I left. Although, I had to be home by midnight so that when they got home, they would not be suspicious. If I found my mate, I might not even have to come home tonight, so I made sure that I wore my mother's necklace.

It would be wonderful if I never had to return to this place again. It held so many memories of my mother and father, but it also held countless memories of my suffering at the hands of the ones that were supposed to love me.

Even if the Prince was not my mate, in would settle for anyone. As long as they took me away from here they would be perfect. But... How would I even know if we were mates? No one had explained anything to me and I knew nothing about the world of shifters. Well, I'm sure that if my mate is there, he will find me one way or another.

"Cin! Have you finished calling the limo company? They need to be here early if we are going to make it from this far out dump all the way to the palace," My stepmother complained as she descended the stairs with my two stepsisters.

"Yes, ma'am," I replied as I was told. I had taken care of everything that was needed so that I might not linger here for any longer than was necessary. As my so-called family passed by, I kept my head down so as to not make eye contact with them.

"Make sure that this house shines so much that I can see my reflection in the floor. Do I make myself clear?" Stepmother commanded.

"Yes ma'am," I gave my last response. With luck I would never speak those words again.

I lifted my head as their doors shut and made my way to my room to get ready. Tonight I would live as the lady my mother raised me to be and I would not bow my head any longer. No matter what happens tonight, my life will never be the same.
