I didn't get it. I didn't understand anything about those words, but deep in the back of my head, something told me that the girl's voice in my head, was speaking the truth. Some instinct told me to believe it. Hello? I called into my head, trying to reach the girl. Hello. She replied. Are you Theresa? I asked. Thomas had told me about a girl named Theresa who said that, so I thought it might've been her possibly. Yes. Has Tom told you about me? She asked. Yes. How did you know? I asked. I have my ways. Theresa said. Are you like, psychic or something? I guessed. I felt a tingle of joy. It must've been from her. Sure, let's go with that. I could feel her laughing. It was... Weird. Like I was feeling her emotions. I remember feeling a little bit of what Tom felt as well. I'll have to get used to that. Okay. I said. I've got to go. She said suddenly. I'll see you soon. She said. What? I asked. She'd see me soon? Just then, a blaring sound came out of nowhere. At first, I thought we were under attack or something. I ran outside, wanting to know what's going on. "Another Greenie?" Someone shouted. I froze. Another person was coming up. I'll see you soon. It was her. I knew it. Theresa was here.
I sprinted to the box which was in the middle of the wooded area. I looked into the hole and saw a girl with brown hair, standing up. How could you stand up while you're in a box that shoots you up like a rocket? "She's standing?" Newt shouted, obviously confused. Murmurs shot around the crowd and like a wave, they were washed away. "Yeah, I am standing. I am confused. I am a girl. Which I'm guessing you guys don't have." She said looking around. I stepped forward and all the boys attention turned to me. "I am here too, do not forget that." I snapped. No one reached down to help her out of the box. So she heaved herself out. She walked briskly toward me so the boys stepped in front of me. "I am not going to hurt her you freaks! I just want to talk." She barked. Still, they did not move. "What's your name girl?" Newt asked Theresa. She looked to me, "I am Theresa. Who are you freaks and why are you so protective of her?" She said gesturing over in my direction. "Because she is nice. Jeff defended me. I wanted to laugh in this girl's face. She agitated me and iced away my calm. "What do you have against me?" I asked. She shrugged. "I guess I don't have anything against you. You're just, how do I say it? Aggravating." She yawned for effect. I rolled my eyes at her. She would drive me insane. That I knew. "Are you challenging me or something?" My voice cut through the air like the blades on a ninja's knife.
She pushed her way through the boys until only one was left between her and I. "Get out of my way." She said to Jeff. He shook his head. "Move." Again, he didn't budge. She punched him in the face. But he just kept standing there, guarding me, and I was grateful for that. An arm swung up from behind her and tackled her to the ground and there were shouts, "Yeah Thomas!" "Get her Minho!" "Frypan use your, umm, frypan!" She looked up from where she was pinned to the surface. "You and me, Claire. 12:00 today. You and me only." I startled for a moment. "How do you know my name?" I asked bewildered. "I'm psychic, remember?" I sat there in shock. How did she remember anything besides her name from before she got up here? "You're scared. I can feel it. Now, will you fight me and face me like a woman? Or will you be a coward, a baby, and a wimp?" I took her hand in mine and said, "You're going down." She smirked and said, "Well, we'll see about that Missy." I rolled my eyes and yawned. All this arguing made me tired. I needed to get some rest before that fight later. I walked to the nearest hammock and fell asleep.
When I finally woke up, it was 11:47 in the morning. I needed to get ready. I opened up my eyes a sliver to see some athletic looking boys, who must be the runners, peering down at me. "Good morning, sleepy, gosh, you are just like Thomas. Sleeping anywhere, everywhere, all the time!" Jeff said. "Morning, Jeff." I murmured. "Let's get you ready for that fight. That other girl, Theresa, is goin down no matter what. I'll make sure of that." I smiled genuinely and said, "Thanks JJ. I'll keep that in mind." He turned to me. "JJ? Is that the best nickname you've got?" I stopped stunned by his reply. He punched me in the arm. "Just kidding I like it! You should've seen your face though! It was hilarious!" At that I wanted to punch him in the face but I just laughed, relieved that he liked it. "Thanks, I just made it up on the spot. I guess it is pretty cool." I said brushing off my actual feelings and starting over. "So... where's this fight taking place, anyways?" I asked. "Over there by the opening in the walls." JJ replied. "Should we go there to warm up?" I wondered aloud. He nodded. "Probably." So we walked over there and just as we were starting to part ways, I realized that I had his hand in mine and just stared at the entwined fingers blankly. I looked up at him to find him doing the same thing. "Well, um, I guess you should start practicing then." He said, breaking the silence. I nodded although I really didn't want him to go. "I'll be on the sidelines if you need me." He offered. "Okay. That sounds nice." I said.
