Run. That was all I could focus on doing at that moment. And so I continued to run, blood pumping through my veins, my feet slapping the ground with each step, trying to keep my breaths steady. The guards chasing after me were slowly falling behind and I smirked a little knowing that even though they couldn't catch me, they still tried to taunt me with their words.

"Run little Rebel, run! We'll catch you anyway!" said one of the guards, out of breath. I chuckled to myself. I knew they wouldn't catch me because I was one of the fastest Rebels at our Base. That's why I was chosen for this mission. I was assigned the task of gathering intel by downloading clips from the Government's security cameras. They held the answers to everything we needed. My people back at Base had been trying for weeks now to hack their files, but their coding was too intricate and complicated.

Suddenly, I heard the guards behind me fire their Striker KL5 guns. I ducked down, but kept running as the lamppost that passed me burst into flames. I continued to run until I turned into an alley way next to me. Before the guards caught up I hid behind a couple of dumpsters and held my breath as the guards entered the alley way.

"Where did she go?" one of them said. I silently prayed that they'd give up and leave, but they started searching. One of the guards started walking towards my hiding place and in a desperate panic I picked up a small pebble on the ground next to me and threw it towards the end of the alley way where it opened up onto another street.

"There she goes!" another one of them said and they all ran away in that direction. When I didn't see them anymore I whispered to myself.

"Idiots." That was the third time I escaped from them this week. I waited another ten minutes or so until I was sure that they were gone and then I slowly got out of my hiding spot.

I quickly brushed off my pants and quietly made my way to the end of the alley, looking around to make sure I was alone. This part of the city was usually quiet anyway. I pulled my wrist up and looked at the screen attached to the sleeve of my jacket. On the screen I typed in the password and I spoke into the tiny mic. "Emases nepo," I whispered. As I said the code words, the manhole cover in the middle of the street sunk in into the ground and moved away, revealing the entrance into the sewers. I had thirty seconds until it closed once more so I quickly and quietly sprinted and dove into the manhole and rolled as I hit the ground. I stood and looked up as the entrance became a plain old manhole once more.

As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw the wires connected to the manhole cover and I began to follow them further into the darkness, my footsteps echoing as I walked.

We Rebels, as we're called by the Government, decided to build our Base underground being that no one used these old sewage pipes anyway. We continued to grow and get stronger as more people joined our cause and soon, we had our own little civilization living underground with leaders and different kinds of jobs people could have. We had training facilities and weaponry stations too. All of the sewage pipes underneath the city led to our Base. Of course, while it wasn't the best place to live, I still called it home.

As I entered our Base, a few people greeted me and I waved hello. I walked along until I reached my family's hut. I saw my nine year old little sister Dace and I smiled. Her blue eyes lit up with excitement when she saw me. She got up and ran toward me, her blonde curls bouncing as she did so. We embraced in a hug and she began to cry.

"I thought they really got you this time, Halo. You were gone for so long and I was so worried," she said. I pulled back and bent down. Taking her face in my hands, I looked her straight in the eyes and spoke.

"Nothing could ever keep me way from you." I kissed her forehead and gave her one last squeeze. As I walked away, I saw my younger brother Cresston exiting our hut. I walked over and hugged him.
