Wizards and the Mirror of EmulationStatus: Incomplete
Rating: 8/10
Era: Rowling's EraSynopsis
Liam Clark has seen the extent of crazy and has had to redefine his definition of "ordinary" — especially when he was told that wizards really exist — however, nothing has baffled him more than seeing another boy through a mirror, a boy named Ron Weasley who claims he knows nothing about the legend of the Boy Who Lived. That's not the only strange thing this year. Not only is a murderer hunting Liam down, but he finds himself a little more intimidated by a girl with bushy brown hair than by the monster that is lurking around the school corridors ... But what confuses him the most is his relationship with a boy he had never seen in the twelve years he's lived, a boy named Harry Potter ... the other Boy Who Lived. What's In It
This story follows twelve-year-old Liam Clark who has suffered nearly the same fate as the famous Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter. However, he has no idea who Harry Potter is and has never heard of there being another Boy Who Lived with a lightning scar just as him. The story sets with a convict named Venus Sting escaping prison and speculation grows as to who let him out, since it is explained that there is no possible way for him to escape by himself (the explanation is in the book). Everyone begins to worry when it is confirmed that the convict is after somebody ... and not just anybody, he's after the Boy Who Lived himself. Now hold on! Before you think this is another Prisoner of Azkaban ripoff, read on.
It will also include the Chamber of Secrets and an interaction with Ron happens halfway through the book. Also, you'll love the book because you'll love Liam and the many other characters Holland introduces in the book. The characters are also "counterparts", like Liam's best friend Tessa Williams is his version of Hermione Granger, the Weasley Twins' counterpart are three mischievous boys named Beck, Simon and Callum and Draco Malfoy's counterpart are twins Adrian and Dmitri McElroy. Don't worry they're not exactly the same. This, I think, helps us connect with the characters quicker, since he'd need to draw you in if he wanted readers to read a book with an entire new cast of characters.
Why You Should Read It
The writing: The writer's style of writing is nearly like Rowling's, which only makes me want to go reread the Harry Potter series for the umpteenth time. There are some points of the story where you just want to commemorate his writing, that's how beautiful some of it is. And it isn't always serious and whatnot. Some of it is comical, which only makes it more pleasant to read. The book is also written in the third person, which also connects to Rowling's writing because that is the perspective she chose to write in, too.
