"He looked at her like she was the waves of a tsunami, threatening to crush everything"
"What do you mean 'gone by morning'? You just got here!" She says as her features grew worried and her eyebrows came together as if she had just failed an exam.
By "just got here" she meant that he had arrived a three months ago at the door of her apartment, which was now turning into more of a tenement as people came and left whenever they pleased.
"By "gone by morning" I mean that I'll be gone by morning, not that I'd think you'd care Katherine." He spits out her name like its poison, another blow that goes straight to her heart, maybe a little to the left. It's no secret that Parker and Katherine had a past, judging by the tension that fills the room whenever they so much as brush up against each other. And just about everyone has heard the hushed whispers from behind the door from when they bicker. But Katherine never opens up, and Parker is surprisingly persistent.
"You know damn well that I care Parker, if anything I care more than I should. You wanna talk about it?" Katherine soothes, putting a gentle hand on Parkers arm. Oh, they joys of having a therapist run the house.
He jerks away. Brushing past her to link arms with his sister Mary, who occupies her phone in one hand and a book in the other. He looks up when he teasingly pulls on her hair, which causes her to look up and throw a scowl Parkers way.
"Hell no I don't want to talk about it, you know that I've stayed far too long in his apartment anyways. It's time for me to go." He hopes she doesn't notice the way his voice cracks on the last word.
"Are you ready?" Mary sighs, twisting her finger around a curl that rests upon her caramel skin.
"Ready as I'll ever be" he replies, forcing a smile and waving goodbye to the other three people in the apartment, purposely avoiding Katherine's icy glare. He presses a kiss to her cheek, and she swears her heart has never twisted more in that moment.
As he heads out the door, he swears he sees her mouth form the words I love you before he slips away, never knowing if he'll see her pretty face again.
