~Chapter 4~

You know those moments when you just totally freeze from shock? Well, now is one of those moments. For me at least.

Niall.

My mind was racing and my heartbeat was still. I was right, this time. She was harming herself. Not only that, but she had cut my name into her skin.

Now, after being torn out of my trance, I saw her sobbing on the floor. Automatically, I sat down next to her and dragged her onto my lap, holding her tightly. I tried to calm her down, but nothing was working. Then I got an idea. I started to sing to her. After a while, she did indeed, start to calm down. When her sobs subsided, I looked into her eyes.

“Why did you do this?” I asked.

“I... I w-was... s-scared,” she stuttered.

“Of what?” I pushed.

“H-him,” she whispered as she started to shake.

“Who is ‘him’?” I asked.

“M-my F-father,” she murmured.

“That son of a bit--! I am going to kill him!” I said, almost yelling.

I started to get up, but Destiny grabbed for me, and yelled, “No!” I looked back at her, confused. She was bent over, holding her stomach and chest area. I became worried, my anger vanishing, and I sat next to her.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She sighed and started to lift her shirt. At first, I was confused. I kept asking myself why would she take off her shirt? It’s not like she wants that. Then, when I saw it I knew. Her stomach and rib cage was lined with bruises. Black, blue, purple and brown. Seeing that made me want to kill the man more! How could he hurt her? Des, the small, fragile girl?!

“N-Niall,” she coughed, I looked over at her. “You-you can’t t-tell anyone a-about my f-father.”

“Des..” I started.

“N-no, Niall,” she whispered.

“Da--it Des, you can’t live this way!” I yelled, whispering.

“Why n-not? I’ve been living t-this way all m-my l-life,” she said, softly.

After I said that to him, I got up, and walked back to the kitchen, where the other guys were. I kept thinking about what Niall said. Did he really care that much about me? When I entered the room, all the boys looked over at me, smiling.

"Where's Niall?" the one, I believe, his name was Louis, asked.

"H-he had to do something," I murmured.

"Oh," Louis said, "Guys, and girl, I'll be back, I have to... go check on something."

I looked at Louis, curiously. I knew what he was going to do, but I didn't say anything. I watched as he walked down the hall that I had came from only a few moments before. I turned back, as Louis left my sight, to the boys. They, now, were caught up in some conversation on something.

I sighed, and thought about what Niall had said.

I walked down the hall as quietly as I could. I was hoping Niall was alright. He seemed a little different lately. Ever since Destiny came into his life. When I came up to his door, I heard nothing. I opened the door slowly.

"Niall?" I asked, quietly.

"L-Louis?" I heard him say.

"Yeah," I said as I came into his room.
