Alice's pov:

Dark spots blurred my vision, my conscience slowly fading. That fact made me happy, but I know that I will wake up and have to endure it all over again. Darkness reigned.

I wake up with a pounding head ache and a large bruise on my face. As I move my bones crack as a result of being left on the floor unconscious. Dad is no where to be seen, which means he will come home with firewhiskey on his breath and the devil possessing his heart. I take a quick look around and feel the kettle, ever so slightly warm which means I have three hours until he returns. He always likes coffee in the morning. Black. Represents his heart. If the kettle is warm it means he left recently and will return in anything from 3 to 6 hours. I have time.

I stood, looking at my now empty room. Magic was a blessing at times like these. A small bag with the undetectable extension charm held the few items I owned. Necessities like food and water, clothes and a sleeping bag. I had books in there as well, school mainly but personal ones also. I don't know where to go, but anywhere is better than this hell hole.

Hogwarts had been my home for three years and the next would be my fourth. I stayed there all the time, but in summer you have to go home. So every summer I have to get on with it and be the best person that I can be in order to not upset dad. This year was the final straw though. I just couldn't take it any more. I went to the only logical choice of person.
