Free Falling Chapter 8

"Babe. Don't worry about her. She's nothing." Zayn murmurs.

"But you're wrong. She's not 'nothing', she's beautiful; and she likes you. It scares me." I mutter, still staring at the door.

"Lila. Look at me" he says, gently turning my face towards his. "What are you talking about? Why would that scare you?"

" I just....ever since we met on the plane, all I could think about was you. When I would see you again, your accent, your eyes, your tattoos, everything about you. And then I found you at that party, and everybody warned me about you, and now that bitch is here. I just feel like even the universe is against us being together. That's what scares me." I say quickly, not meeting his eyes.

Zayn stays silent. He takes his palms away from the wall, freeing me, and steps back.

"Is that what you want? Do you want us to break up?" He says, his dark eyes turning cold and clouded.

"No!" I cry. I slide my back down the wall, coming to a sitting position. Zayn does the same, sitting beside me. We're silent for a while.

"I love you." He whispers, so quietly I almost didn't hear.

"Wh-what?"

"I love you. I do. I've never told anybody that before, but I love you, Lila. Ever since that day on the plane, I've loved you. I didn't want to say anything, I thought it was too soon, but you needed to hear it."

I stare at him, shocked. I can't think of anything to say, and my mouth is hanging wide open.

"Say something. Tell me what I should do!"

I'm still too shocked to speak.

His hopeful face shuts down, becomes stony and hurt.

"Well let me know when you figure it out, yeah?" He says harshly standing up and walking away.

"Zayn!" I choke out, getting up to follow him. But he's already gone, disappearing out the same door as Adrienne. I run outside to stop him, but I don't make it in time. Zayn's on his motorcycle, racing down the street, away from me.
