“Wake up!” A girl shook Ashlynn hard. “Wake up!” Ashlynn’s eyes fluttered open to reveal four girls standing over her each blessed with infinite beauty. Ashlynn sat up and remained silent; she began to examine the girls. Her eyes skimmed over their faces until she reached the last girl. Ashlynn’s mouth dropped instantly. The girl’s skin was the color of jade and her eyes were an unnatural shade of blue. Her honey-colored hair cascaded down her back into perfect ringlets. Ashlynn let out a surprised yelp.

“Dude, it’s alright. She’s not going to hurt you.” Rose assured Ashlynn.

“What’s wrong with her?” Ashlynn asked, her voice shaking.

“It’s how she was born. She’s always looked like that.” Rose explained. “I guess you could say that she’s a mermaid.”

“A mermaid?” Ashlynn repeated in pure shock.

            Rose nodded slowly. “Nora, explain.”

The girl with the green skin cleared her throat. “I can control water but when I touch it my legs turn into fins and my skin becomes scales and gills begin to form right here.” Nora pointed to the sides of her throat.

“Are you kidding me?” Ashlynn exclaimed.

“Nope, want to see?” Nora asked with a gentle smile.

“I’d rather not.” Ashlynn mumbled. “Who are you guys?”

“I’m Addison,” A girl with short, auburn hair and gleaming emerald eyes piped up. She was around 5’5 and had curves in all the right places. “This is Evangeline, she doesn’t talk much.” Addison gestured to an angelic girl that sat on a bed parallel to her. Evangeline’s hair was a deep bronze that hung past her waist. She was flawless from the dimples in her rosy cheeks to the perfect curves in her full lips; there wasn’t a blemish visible on her sun kissed skin. Sprinkles of cinnamon freckles led a trail across her perfect nose. Evangeline was petite in shape and short in height with hardly any curves at all. But was most captivating about Evangeline was her eyes. Sooty lashes rimmed her fascinating, mismatching eyes. The right one was as bright a blue as lapis lazuli but the left one was a warm brown that resembled melted chocolate. Ashlynn was completely envious of Evangeline’s breathtaking beauty.

“Are all of you my roommates?” Ashlynn asked, searching the eyes of each girl.

Rose shook her head. “Not officially. I consider them my roommates though because they sleep in here all the time.”

“Except for Evangeline, she sleeps next door with her brother.” Addison said with a warm smile.

“Ooo, look at that smile. Addison, are you thinking of Evan?” Rose teased.

Addison began to blush wildly. “Shut up! No I’m not!”

Nora began to giggle. “Have you kissed him yet?”

“No!” Addison threw a pillow at Nora. Nora caught it in her hands and laughed harder. Evangeline simply smiled.

            “Who’s Evan?” Ashlynn asked, curiously.

            “Addison’s boyfriend,” Rose snickered.

“No he’s not!” Addison exclaimed, full of giggles.
