CHAPTER ONE: THE BIG NEWS

“So this really freaky thing is happening to my teeth, check it out.” CeCe opened her mouth wide enough so the built in camera on her laptop could get a shot of her sharp teeth that were poking through her gums. “No wonder I wasn't born with canine teeth, these fangs, at least I think they are, pushed the other teeth out of the way to make room. It's like I'm teething all over again. Not much fun if you ask me.” She turned towards the window in room. “Hey, look. It's snowing. Ah, I love winter.” CeCe giggled then a knock sounded at her door. She quickly shut her laptop and faced the now open door. Her mom walked in and sat down on her bed.

“Hey kiddo. What are you up to?” CeCe picked up the book next to her.

“Just doing a little reading.” Her mom chuckled and laid a hand on CeCe's shoulder.

“You don't have to hide anything from me. I know you've been making those video diaries for the past year now.”

“Oh. Well okay, then.”

“Just know, I'm always here for you if you ever need me, so is your dad.”

CeCe nodded. She fidgeted a bit before deciding to ask a question. “Well I was curious about one thing,” CeCe trailed off as her mom waited for her to continue. “Do you think that it's possible to go through puberty uh, twice?” Her mom laughed loudly at the absurdity. “Don't make fun of me! I didn't know.”

“No dear, I wasn't making fun of you.”

“That's not what it looked like to me.” CeCe's mom finally calmed down and composed herself before calling out to her husband.

“Honey! Come here!” She just smiled at her daughter which slightly weirded CeCe out.

“What is it?” CeCe's dad asked as he entered the bedroom.

“Jack,” her mom said standing up. “She finally hit the age we've been waiting for. She calls it a second puberty.” Both adults shared a look of amusement while CeCe just looked angry from not knowing what was going on and being teased.

“Kind of late, don't you think, Andrea?”

“Oh she's just a late bloomer.” CeCe could only wait for an explanation as her parents conversed as if she wasn't even there.

“Hello?” Andrea and Jack turned to CeCe. “Hi, yeah. Mind explaining what in the world you guys are talking about?”

“Oh, sweetie. Smile for us, would you?” Andrea asked grinning from ear to ear. Slowly, CeCe formed a smile with her brow furrowed. “Aw! Look at how tiny they are.” Her mouth clamped shut.

“What do you mean?”

“Your fangs, CeCe.” Her dad answered startling her. She did think they looked like fangs but getting a confirmation on it gave it the reality it needed to scare her. And the fact that her parents knew about everything didn't help her fright.

“W-what!? What do you guys know about them? Are they going to kill me?” And her over reactive imagination hadn't solved any problems either.

“Hold on, calm down. Don't worry we can answer any questions you have. We've got plenty of time.” Her mom told her so she wouldn't be so stressed out. “No, they aren't going to kill you. They could save your life one day.” CeCe had no idea what that meant, but she let her mom finish. “And we know because we're your parents, actually...” Andrea stopped talking, afraid she had said to much and knowing CeCe's questions would double in size.
