CeCe’s facial expression resembled that of a fish. Wide eyes with a circular, open mouth. “Holy crap.”
“CeCe,” Andrea warned in a parental tone.
“Sorry.” Her parents, or uncle and aunt always tried to keep CeCe’s mouth clean. Even though she hadn’t cussed, her mom said often enough that saying “crap” or “suck(s)” would make someone ugly. CeCe believed it when she was little, but as she grew up she only laughed at it. But of course she did try to watch her mouth around her parents and other adults. The vehicle came to a halt along the curved driveway just in front of a door. CeCe was surprised when the door handle slipped from her fingers and saw the door open by itself.
“Miss?” An older gentleman in a suit offered for her to get out. CeCe nodded and hopped on out making her way to the sidewalk . Her adoptive parents waited at the door for her. “I shall take your luggage up to your rooms now.” The man bowed with his silvery hair staying perfectly in place. One look at his eyes and CeCe could tell he was a vampire. She wondered how old he was and how the aging of vampires worked.
“Actually, if you don’t mind, I’d like to keep my backpack with me,” CeCe grabbed her light blue bag and slipped her arms through the straps securing it onto her back.
“Of course.”
“Cece, this is Benjamin Hayle. He’s an old friend of the family and is also a very loyal butler,” Jack told CeCe, introducing Benjamin.
“It’s good to meet you,” CeCe greeted holding her hand out to the old vampire. Hesitantly he took hold of her hand and shook it firmly.
“Likewise,” he responded. And without another word he was off with their belongings. CeCe’s eyes grew extremely wide. She wasn’t used to anything that involved vampires so the quick speed caught her off guard.
Andrea giggled at CeCe’s expression, “Well there’s your first taste of vampire skills.”
“Yeah, I sure wasn’t expecting faster than cheetah speed.” Both adults exchanged a look before laughing. “What? Did I say something funny?”
“Weeeell. It wasn’t actually speed. It was more of, well, sort of a instant transportation. Like teleporting, if you will.”
“Ahh, gotcha.” With her reply the small family entered the castle. “I really am getting sick of all these surprises. Can we just go home and act like this never happened?” No one answered as they walked up a large staircase that was in the front room of the castle. CeCe admired her surroundings with the temptation to touch almost everything in sight.
“Here we are. You ready kiddo?” Jack asked as both adults turned to face her.
“Uh, yeah. I suppose.” CeCe realized they made it to a pair of large wooden doors. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of meeting her real parents. She had no idea what they would be like. Considering that they were royalty she figured that they might be uptight.
Inside appeared to be a large office. The decor of it seemed very extravagant. A large desk sat at the far side of the room with a young handsome man with dark brown hair and smokey gray eyes. There was a woman leaning against the desk. She had long blonde hair and light brown eyes. She looked about the same age as the man behind the desk. CeCe noted this to her thoughts on vampire aging.
“Hello Cecelia,” the woman greeted. “I’m Carmen and this is David. “She gestured toward the man looking very interested in CeCe from his spot behind the desk. CeCe didn’t really enjoy her full name, but she brushed it off.
