School is a game.
Every school has a different board, with different pieces moving around. There are rules, and there are cheaters. There are winners, and there are losers.
I have won the game at every school I have ever been to. In fact, it was always easy. But that was before I moved to Corner Springs, and started to play the game at McKinley High School. Because for the first time, there was somebody else who knew how to play. And for the first time, I wasn't sure if I would win.
The only thing I knew was that if I lost for the first time, it could be the end. Of me, of my family, of my new school, of everything.
This was a game I couldn't lose.
