She was seventeen the week of the incident.....

It started off like any other, wake up early for school, survive school, and come home. Lilith had done steps 1 and 2 and was currently driving back as part of step 3. Before she had gotten into her car, a simple blue bug, she had received a text from her mother. It stated simply that when she got home to join her and her father in the kitchen. Normally, Lilith would immediately go to her room and begin her homework. Calculus wouldn't do itself. She recalled as she turned onto her street that the last time she had received a text like that her parents had told her she was adopted. Not that it wasn't obvious. In contrast to their light auburn hair and and warm brown eyes of varying shades, Lilith's hair was jet black and her eyes an icy blue. Her skin was also noticeably lighter.

Her bug pulled into the driveway and she parked, getting out of the car with a sigh. If only she didn't have this detour in her plans, then she could finish her homework and relax. Lilith just hoped that it wouldn't take long. Her feet hit the ground and she grabbed her bag, her car beeping merrily as it locked. She walked up the path and opened the door.

"Hey, Mom, Dad, I'm home!"

There was no answer, and she raised an eyebrow. That was strange, they said they would be here. She began moving towards the kitchen, carelessly throwing her bag by the door.

"Hello-o, you said you wanted to-"

The words she had planned to say froze on her tongue as she viewed the scene before her. What remained of her beloved family seemed to stare at her with empty eyes and bloody regret. Their jaws were slack, gaping holes threatening to swallow Lillith and everything she stood for. No amount of prayers or wishing could save her from the wave of grief and utter shock that took her under. Screaming, she ran to their sides, or the tattered flesh that was left of them, and cursed all things holy for letting such a thing happen. Her muscles went rigid as she began to blame herself for not getting home sooner.
Whoever had done this, she swore would never see the light of day after she caught them.
