After the encounter with the group, we decided it would be better to leave a fake trail just in case they were following us. "All set" said John, while finishing the fake trail and retrieving his gear. "Where should we head next, John?" I replied laying out the map. "The River!" replied John. "Why the river?" I asked. "Think about it, this civilization needed to get there water from somewhere. The Egyptians had the Nile, why can't the Fire Amazonians have the Amazon. replied John with a smirk, confident of his idea. "That is true, but what if they had another water source besides the river." I asked. "Trust me the Amazon river would be their first choice, if they had a choice. They wouldn't just have water but also plenty of food resources." assured John. "Good thinking, and speaking of food, we should try to get something that will last us a few days."
I replied, loading my rifle. "Your right, let's see if we can snag a Tapir." said John. "I see you been studying your animals." I replied. "I know all forms of bacon." laughed John, grabbing his rifle. "Let's head toward the river, maybe we might even get to see a jaguar hunting as well." I laughed, while grabbing my hunting bag. "That's one of the rarest big cats in the world." replied John, studying his compass. "According to my compass and the map, the river is a few miles East of where we are now." He added.
"Let's get moving, so we can return before sun down." I implied. It was already 9am. and the sun was already blazing down upon us. After trekking through the dense rainforest, we came to a sudden stop after about 2 miles due to a sudden sound. "You hear that Cortez." asked John, looking through some brush. "Sounds like grunting, John." I replied, adjusting my rifle strap. "It sounds close." replied John, swinging his rifle from his shoulder. "Yeah, maybe it's something we can call dinner." I replied grabbing my rifle too. Suddenly, some bushes a few yards in front of started moving, me and John began taking aim. Then, a pair of brocket deer emerged from the bushes. "What kind of deer is that and can we hunt them." whispered John, while continuing to aim. "They are Brown Brocket Deer and yeah we can shoot them but let's shoot only one." I whispered back. "You wanna take the shot or should I have the honors." whispered John. "Go ahead, take the shot." I replied. Suddenly, John's rifle cracked the silence of the forest. The deer dropped in its place. "Nice shot." I yelled with excitement. "Now, let's set up camp here for the night." he replied. I began hacking away at the branches of a small tree that seemed to be the strongest for our shelter. John began making a fire to roast some of the fresh meat on. After we ate, no one said another word. We just watched the day turn to night. That was the end of our hunt.
