I woke up and dressed into my same traveling clothes I had that fateful day in Farmer Maggot's crops.

I had heard that Frodo had stirred, and I wanted to see him first thing.

Lily went off to see her mother and I told her I'd be back later.

I found Merry eating elevensies (I had skipped it to walk with Lily) and we headed over to the building that Frodo was in.

"Merry!" I yelped. "It's Mr. Baggins!"

Bilbo looked up. He was writing in a book.

"Mr. Bilbo, how are you?" I asked.

"Fine, fine, my dear hobbits. I wonder if you could say the same, given what you've been through." He replied.

Merry and I sighed in unison. He was right. After seeing Frodo get stabbed and all, I was t sure if I really was fine.

I heard some talking. Frodo and Sam.

We said goodbye to Bilbo and left him to write.

We ran the rest of the way to Frodo, whom Merry embraced in a hug.

Frodo and I then embraced as well, laughing the whole time.

"You're awake! I knew it Frodo! I knew it!" I said.

Frodo caught a glimpse of Bilbo. I urged him on and he ran over to him, crying, "Bilbo!" jubilantly.

Merry and I walked off, leaving Sam muttering things about, "Pots, pans, what else have I forgotten?"

Sam was packing. To go home. That reminded me. We could not stay here.

I had to leave Lily in Rivendell.

I walked up to Lily.

"Where have you been?" She asked jokingly.

I gave her a melancholy smile. "Lily..."

She put a finger to my lips. "I know, Pippin. I know you must leave."

"And-and you're okay?" I asked her.

"I know you have a duty to protect your friend, Pippin." She said. She looked up. "All I ask is you never forget me, Peregrin."

"Lily," I started. "How could I?" And she put her lips to mine.
