My eyes can't focus. I'm numb. I'm dizzy, nauseous. I swear people are looking at me funny. I'm in a trance. I can't feel my feet. I can't command my brain to think. My breathing is short, my heart is going bonkers. My feet are taking me somewhere.

Where are you taking me, feet? I ask in my mind, tilting my head at them.

We are sending you we know not where. They seem to reply.

Dammit, feet. Now is not the time for a reference.

Text Elizabeth. A little voice whispers to me gently. I obey. I get out my phone and I work my thumb over letters.

Elizabeth, I send, letting her know immediately that something is wrong. I only call her Elizabeth in emergencies.

What's going on? She responds.

I need you, I say. Elizabeth is my emotional support. My base. My healing process. My life-line.

What's happened?

Ren asked Kayla out. I text back, and I enter my classroom. I sink heavily into my chair, and I have this sudden urge to cry.

It's irrational, this urge. I shouldn't feel like this. I knew she wasn't mine. Our relationship wasn't even supposed to be a thing. We just... flirted one day, ended up kissing, and wanted to try going steady. I did, at least. A day later, though, she told me she wanted to be available to everyone since she liked Renkin.

Well shit. Bess texted. I looked at the text like it had just given me a rotten egg.

Yeah. This weekend I need you.

I felt people talking around me. I didn't hear them, my whole world is... muffled. The bell rings, and Makayla walks in. She sits silently in her seat, a slight smile on her lips.
