I scratched at the paper with my brush, smearing lavender on the dress in the heroine's closet. Deeming my project finished, I placed my materials in their respective bins and boxes.

With a glance at the clock and a growl from my stomach, I decided to make dinner. Grabbing a can of sauce and a box of noodles, I began making pasta. I set the pan on the stove and stirred the noodles, seasoning them every once in a while.

After I was done making dinner, I decided to watch some anime while waiting for my husband to come home. "Hello, Kelly. How are you?"

"I'm fine, it's my brother I need to talk to you about."

Those words impaled my heart like a needle, all of my new-found relief flooding right out again.

"Yes."

"Savannah, come to my house in fifteen minutes, and try to avoid the shadows."

That was all she said before hanging up as if the phone were a hot potato. Why couldn't she just tell me over the phone? What she had said came to my mind.

"Why should I avoid the shadows?
