My name is Anastasia Gabrielle Simon, and I am utterly obsessed with Phantom Of the Opera. I am a straight A-honor classes-smarty pants type of person. I owe all of that to my know-everything blurb and photographic memory. I try to keep myself on the down low, off of most people's radars. I'm not exactly what society deems normal. Thats mostly in the outside world. At home, I run on six hours of sleep and the rest of the time is devoted to wattpad and tumblr.
"Anastasia Gabrielle Simon! Will you hush for a mo'?" Jana, my best friend, chastises me. " Trust me- C'mon. You know Phantom is my life line." I sass back. "We need to find you a man..." Yvelyn mutters. "Find me my own Erik then." I haughtily say, knowing the odds of them finding him are slim to none in this world. "Yve, did you study for Bio's test?" Jana asks, and I take this as a chance for me to drift back into my own little world. In my perfect world, I have a library with endless books and food.
Sooner than I'd like to, the bell rings and I have to leave the gym and quiet my voice. My P.E. class is a joke, so I renamed it Opera Hour. Jana and Yvelyn will sometimes join in, but most of the time they just suggest songs for me to sing. " So Mr.Crowley's test should be easy. Do y'all remember what he said the sections would be?" I ask. They nod and rattle the names off. Even though I can be quite annoying, they still love me. I'm quite useful in study hall. "Guys, we need to hurry. I know we have like 5 minutes to get from class to class, but I'd like to use most of that time to cram. Moo-ve cows, moo-ve." Jana, laughs. "Y'all are amateurs." I mutter. When we arrive in Mr.Crowley's room, he has the desks rearranged into the usual test taking rows. I sigh. Whenever we take the tests, we have to sit in alphabetical order. I'm at the end of the roster where as Yvelyn and Jana are at the top. "Sit down and be quiet, tests are being handed out. Only a pen or pencil on your desk, please." He commands. The familiar rush of test anxiety comes and goes within seconds, and I begin. I hum Adele's Hello as I write my name and fill in my sheet. When I get done, I flip over my paper and push it and my pencil aside. I try and open my book bag quietly, which doesn't go so well. I get dirty looks from quite a few people.
I get lost in the world of Percy Jackson in a few seconds.
Before I know it, The bell rings and we are off to our next class. History, is one of my best subjects, but I dont always get a good teacher. Last year,I had a good teacher, but he was kind of hard to understand. THis year, she seems okay. I dont have any problems. Even though she has taught pretty well this semester, I still went to the library and checked out a history book. I find that it helps quite a bit to read the book the night before a test. Yvelyn and Lana meet me at our group station in Mrs.Eldeen's class, where I find Lana red faced. "Lan, what's wrong?" I say, immediately moving in to Mother mode. "She won't talk to me. She just looked at her phone as we got out of Mr. Crowley's room and went beet red." Yvelyn says, also very worried. I sit down and I give her a hug. That's when the tears start flowing. I see her phone getting crushed in her hand, and I end up using a pressure point to get her to release it. There is a message on screen saying that her gran was in a car crash, a hit and run. I look up at Yvelyn and she mouths "Tell Teach?". I nod and she runs out into the hall while I get her up and out. I take her to the nearest bathroom and I hand her tissues until the tears slowly stop. "G-gran i-is de-aaaaad!" She wails. "I know your pain, Laney. Just let it all out." I say, opening my arms for a hug. She accepts it and sniffles into my jacket. " I'll go with you to the office. I'm sure your dad is coming to get you." I say, and stand up. I smooth out my outfit and extend a hand out to her. " I need to clean my face before I go out of-" A short freshman comes in but realizes that this is an awkward situation, and clears out. "here." She finishes. She gets a wet paper towel and wipes off her remaining makeup. "I'm ready. Thank you for sitting with me. I really needed that." Lana says. We walk out together towards the front office. A glance at my want tells me that we have just a few minutes before the next period starts. Getting to the office from the bathroom we were in takes just a minute, and we arrive to Lana's dad, Geoff, and Yvelyn. Yvelyn hugs her and hands her her book bag that she left in Mrs.Eldeen's class. Lana sheds fresh tears once she reaches her dad and then they walk out together.
We get back to class as the bell sounds, so I grab my bag and very nearly run to my favorite class, choral. I take out my notebook and then I start my voice excercises. Today we get our Christmas music, and I can not stand waiting for it. When Ms.Day's timer goes off, the class goes silent. "Good afternoon everyone! I have what you so dearly want; the Christmas music! First we have Jingle Bells and Frosty The Snowman, which everyone sings. For the duet, we have Anastasia Simon and James Porter singing the main parts of Baby It's Cold Outside. Last but not least, Ana will be singing Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You. Ensemble, will need to learn all of the songs and where you as a group need to come in. The concert is close, just a couple of weeks away. Preparation starts now!" Ms.Day announces. Everyone takes out their phones and downloads the music while she hands out the sheet music. I'm a little nervous about singing AIWFCIY. I plug in my earphones and I hum along to her audio whyile looking the words, and my nervousness goes away.
By the end of class, I know most of the lyrics and can sing it a capella. "I don't want a lot for Christmas, There is just one thing I need, I don't care about the presents, Underneath the Christmas tree, I just want you for my own, More than you could ever know-" I'm in the middle of singing when the bell sings, and off we go to 6th period. I'm a little sad at leaving my voice, but when I remember we are supposed to start reading Les Mis today. I get a little fangirly as I collect my belongings. I join the last group out of the class room. As I close her door and start to walkaway, I run straight into someone.
We try to catch each other, but to no avail. My glasses fly off and I can barely see. I feel around for my glasses and I sigh, relieved, once I put them on. They seem a little off, but I put that to being stepped on or something. I pick up my notebook and I help him gather his things and stand up. "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going." I say to him, blushing and looking at my feet. "It's 'kay." He mutters, and walks off.
