Okami's P.O.V

I may be an 'monster' but I knew a killer instinct when I felt it. It felt like the first moment I met one of them.

Except worse.

I let out a short growl behind the thin forepaw of the female Alpha. Her instincts were not as sharp as mine nor did she live as long as I have to know the scent of true danger, but she had more fight in her than me; I ceased my threats almost immediately.

"We must go to the Red Tree Okami." She murmured, finally sensing the danger radiating from one of those 'ninjas'. I nodded, chasing after her fleeing figure.

We ran until the moon was high in the sky, we stopped for a long drink from the southern stream. From the stream, we snatched up a mouthful of fish each and bolted further into the forest.

"STOP!" A voice yelped, I halted whilst Wylde hid herself in nearby thrush. She was to ambush the attacker if he dared while I was to reveal him to her, a rather ingenious trick. Sniffing the air, the scent smelled foreign yet familiar. We waited for the strangers to step out. Three males, one with red markings, another with mud-coloured fur and black patches where his eyes where, the last was a familiar-ish scent, he resembled a pup. One female, short blue fur and pale eyes, radiating fear.

"What do you want?" I grumbled, not in the mood to attack, the pup needs not to be subjected to the trauma right now. Two, the female and the mud-coloured boy, cocked their head to the side in confusion whilst the pup and the red marked one squinted at us.

"What did he say Kiba?" The mud-fur boy mumbled towards the red marked one. He in return, scrunched his face in concentration.

"Something... I don't know."

"Don't you speak 'dog'?"

"Yeah, but he's a wolf!"

I watched them, a one-sided bickering. The marked one would argue whilst witty comments were thrown back at him. The female, however, approached me cautiously.

"H-hello" She stuttered, reaching a hand out to pet me. Not wanting to be touched by... filth, I growled at her, earning the attention of the males. All of the pack froze however, the pup bounded towards me as if I were an old friend.

"Hello!" He yipped, bouncing in a way that closely resembled an indecisive butterfly choosing between a lily and a rose.

"I'm Akamaru! What's your name?"

"Okami."

"Where do you live? How old are you? Where's your master? What are you doing here-"

"I live in this forest. I am twenty birth cycles. I have no master, only an Alpha. Once again, I live here." This Akamaru, kept bombarding me with questions that I shot down with simple answers.

After a few minutes, Wylde signaled me to hurry up and either kill them, like I should have or run and get to the tower as fast as possible.

Of course I chose the later.

"I must go now." I nudged him away from my tail and started walking away.

"Where are you going-" A loud blast interrupted him as he and his pack were sent flying a few meters. I, on the other hand, had my instincts kick in and claws extended to root me to the ground. I immediately bared my teeth and growled in no general direction, head sweeping from side to side.

"Stay down." I instructed aloud, mostly for Wylde. I prowled slowly to the bushes that I suspected held the attackers.

"WHO'S THERE!" Yelled Kiba, Akamaru's alpha. Two males stepped out, both bearing metallic weapons.

"Give us your scroll." He rasped, coming closer to the pack.

"Or what?" Kiba taunted, grin wide and looked as if it'd fall of his face. Something was coming.

"We kill her." Before his other pack member could make a grab at the female, Wylde jumped out of her hiding place and clawed at the protective pelt he wore. I took the opportunity to rip open the throats of one while Akamaru's pack took care of the other one.

"Good boy!" Smiled Kiba, flinging his arms around my neck. I, on the other hand, was too tired and hungry to give a damn. I may be a fighter, but I am still a living being and one that needs rest and food, Wylde as well.

"Wylde. Let's go." I barked at her. She huffed but complied, sleep most likely being a contributing factor. I nipped her arm and she hissed at me before we abandoned Akamaru's pack and made for the Red Tree.
