I always knew I would be 18 at one point, I just didn't want to think about it.
"Scarlet, come down here!" Mom cheered and I sigh, pulling my hair in a messy bun.
"Just a second!" I holler and I began putting my earrings in.Most parents don't let their kids get earrings in my generation, because they say it's a waste of precious metal, but my mom said it made me different from most blondes.
I run downstairs and I smile at the cinnamon rolls.
"I know it's your last birthday here, so we may as well splurge, you are my eldest after all." Mom said sheepishly and I smile.
"Thank you, mom. It means a lot." I say softly and dad came down stairs.
"Ah, happy birthday, Scarlet." Dad said softly, and I nod.
"Good thinking, Grace." He kissed moms cheek and she flushed, clearly relieved.
"So, how do you feel about the moving?" Dad asked and I sigh."Knowing my luck, I'll get someone like Jackson, or James. Selfish pricks." I mumble and he laughed.
"I hope you get someone good." He said softly and I nod.
"So do I." I sigh and I shove a cinnamon bun in my mouth.
"But I have to go! We have to be early!" I wave and I dash outside.

I stood in my place in the gym, next to Gabe and Michael.
"You ready, Scarlet?" Michael asked softly and I nod.
"And you?" I ask and he shrugged.
"I guess." He mumbled, glancing at Lydia.
"I just wanna get this on with. It's not a bid deal." Ethan mumbled and I sigh.
"If it was, then we wouldn't be in the gym. I'm afraid there's something else involved that no one talks about." I mumble and they looked shocked."If it's really nothing special like they let on, why not pick in a classroom? Clearly, it's more complicated then they let on. I've looked into it. Looks like you are paired with someone who's exactly the opposite of you." I mumble and Ethan looked amused.
"Who are you and where's Scarlet?" He asked playfully and I roll my eyes."It's just simple thinking. Why does it sound so simple, yet a huge fuss over it? It's more symbolic then we know, and probably has rituals built into its simple system." I mumble and I herd sighs.
"Was it just me who popped a hard one from that?" Gabe asked and the class laughed."Your an imbecile." I say harshly and they blink, shocked at my sudden change of personality.
"Sheesh, Simone's PMS'ing." Kayla mumbled and I sigh.
"I'm nervous, and I don't want an asshole. So chill out." I mumble and they relax."I-it's fine." Gabe stammered and I felt Ethan's curious gaze.
"I don't know what that was, but that was hot." He mumbled and I glare.
"This is a serious environment. Read it, retard." I snap, and he blinked, his brown and green eye flashing with slight fear.
"S-sheesh." He mumbled and I sigh."I-I'm sorry. I'm on edge and your stupid comments really aren't helping." I say softly and he looked confused.
"It's fine..?" He almost asked and I sigh
"It's about to begin. I suggest you keep a keen ear." I say softly and he nodded.

I listened calmly, as names were called."Scarlet Peterson." The principle announced and I sigh.
"Good luck." Micheal whispered and I nod, pushing off the wall and walking up to the stage. My family went silent as they saw me and I took a deep breath in fear. I smile brightly at my brothers and they looked nervous.
"E-"

I jolt up, breathing heavily.
"Scar?" Caden and Kade asked and I smile.
"I'm fine, just a nightmare." I say softly and they nod.
"Anyways, time for breakfast." I chirp and they nod happily.

"Ethan, get up!" Mom roared and I groan.
"Today's the rehearsal for the big day!" She yelled and I sigh, sitting up.
"Scarlets gonna be there, oh, such a sweet little girl." She gushed and I sigh."Mom, we don't exactly-" She was gone and I sigh.
I change into a sweatshirt and jeans, and I walk downstairs.
"Morning, Ethan." Dad chirped and I sigh.
"Mornings are for losers. I'd rather sleep." I mumble and he smiled.
"Oh shush. Don't be so gloomy, it'll scare away all the pretty ones." He winked and I chuckle, sitting at my spot."Sorry. I just hate mornings." I mumble and he snorted.
"So do I."
"Ahem." Mom glowered and he sighed.
"S-sorry."

I sat in my desk, listening to Mr. McCormick drone about how things are going to be in the stupid assembly.Scarlet wasn't listening, surprisingly enough, and was doodling on her notebook, looking lost in her boredom.
I began writing a little note and I set it on her desk. She read it and I could feel her glower. I smirk as she angrily wrote.
You think your so funny?
I know I am.
You aren't. That's immature. I feel bad for the poor girl who gets you.
That one, stung a bit, but I wrote one back.
I feel sorry for the poor guy who gets a bitch like you.
Her eyes widened and she sighed and stood. She walked over and slapped me.
Really, really hard.
She ran out and I grimace, holding my stinging cheek.
"Runde?" Mr. McCormick looked un-amused and I sigh.
"I called her a bitch." I mumble and he sighed.
"Go find her and bring her back, Kayla." He asked and said brown haired girl ran off."After class, Runde." He said and I nod and he continued class.
<~~>
"Ethan, why did you call Scarlet a bitch?" He asked dryly and I put my hands in my pockets.
"She said she felt sorry for the girl who got me, so I wrote I felt sorry for the boy who got a bitch like her." I say bluntly and he looked like he knew something.
"Your screwed when you get selected. Alright, just get to the gym." He mumbled and I shrug, walking off.
