This was very much like Isaac.
He wasn't one to speak his emotions. He either expressed it through music or through words.
That way, it's easier.
The emotional sting of rejection that he was expecting wouldn't hurt as much.
Of course, he only knew the girl's name - and a very pretty name at that - but something about her just...
pulled him in.
'My head's underwater, but I've forgotten how to swim.'
With a deep breath, he glanced at her back and forth, switching from heel to heel, until he finally got the courage to walk up to her.
She wasn't with her friend - Melanie, if I recall correctly? - so, as usual, she had her earphones plugged in (only one of them - he noticed she only ever put on the right earphone, just like him. It was the tiny things that mattered most.) and she was just about to board the bus when Isaac gently tapped her shoulder.
"Uh, could you maybe get on the next time she stops? I have to, uh, 'talk' to you."
His voice was quiet, and very deep, and he could feel a rumble in his chest that only added to the frantic beating of his heart.
He was quite suprised when the girl - Katherine, her name was - nodded, mocha-chocolate eyes wide (he had just noticed that, because he was definetely not a stalker.)
His long, nimble fingers frantically searched his pockets as he finally curled them around a tiny slip of paper, one that could completely change his life.
She quirked her eyebrow in a questioning way as she waited patiently for Isaac to pass her the paper.
When he finally did, she opened it up, but Isaac found himself ready to bolt when she kept turning the paper over, furrowing her brows, her bottom lip sticking out just slightly.
(He noticed that she did that a lot.)
"Wow, this is awkward, but uh, I can't read it..."
She looked at me, her nose slightly flushed, and she crinkled the edges of the paper with her hands, her knuckles turning slightly white.
Isaac, stop staring at her knuckles like an idiot and say something for once in your life!
He took the paper and said quietly;
"I'll read it."
He only caught a glimpse of the Skittle-colored smile on her face before he started reading, and although it was cold, that wasn't the reason his cheeks were turning a light pink.
"I love you in the quietest way possible.
Think midnight planets spinning, my handwriting on paper, your name in semi-permanent ink.
And the entire world would know if my heart was breaking.
But it's so soft, you wouldn't.
It's a dangerous game falling in love with you.
Sideway glances. One step forward.
Half-there smiles. Two steps back.
Do you hold your breath like I hold mine?
I know this Earth is hard enough to break hearts. Did we pass go?
It's your turn to roll the dice."
His words were slow and drawled out, and even though he barely spoke, his voice was unlike what anyone would think - it was deep, yet his laugh was so soft and quiet and girl-like.
She loved it that way.
There were a few moments of silence before she smiled brightly.
"Oh, good. I was right then."
He raised his eyebrow, and it took him a moment to register what she was saying, and a flicker of light seemed to light up in his soft, light brown eyes.
"You... You could understand it?"
Her smile growing ever-so-wide, her dimples stretching across her cheeks, becoming deeper by the minute, the corners of her eyes wrinkling, and he felt like he could swim in the chocolate brown seas of hope in her eyes.
"Of course. I just wanted you to say the words I've been waiting so long to hear."➖➖➖☯☯➖➖➖
