chapter 2

I awoke, utterly disorientated, to the sound of The Script blaring from my phone. I reached over the bed and picked it up, pressing it to my ear and yawning.

"Liam? Oh man I am so so sorry I totally forgot I promised to pick you up but Holly invited me to this party and I had a few drinks and I just don't know....." I recognised the familiar Irish accent straight away, and memories of last night came flooding back, and I remembered everything. Including Zayn and his hot voice. Is it possible to have the hots for a voice? Because I think I did. But also, the fact that I had been left out in the cold until my privates nearly froze off! But for some reason I wasn't too mad at Niall, who was still rambling on about what happened to him last night.

"...So then they got arrested and the nurses finally managed to pull the bike handle out his bum and then I woke up back home and I suddenly remembered about you! I'm so sorry Li, I really am." Niall finally finished, panting slightly. I smiled to myself. Talking to Niall always put me in a good mood, even when I was angry at him or when he steals my food.

"Don't worry about it, I talked to a guy and I got a motel room. Everything's fine!" I replied, and heard him sigh with relief.

"Awesome! So text me your motel address and I'll pick you up asap! In fact I'm leaving the house right now!" I heard a thud followed by a loud "Niall! Put some trousers on!" And chuckled to myself.

"Will do, see you soon." I replied, hanging up. I found the motel address on the back of the motel keys and texted it to him, before getting out of bed and throwing on my clothes from yesterday. I then shuffled around the motel room for a bit, packing up the odd things I had unpacked yesterday and brushing my teeth. It wasn't long before my phone rang again, and I hobbled over to pick it up.

"Yeah?" I greeted, yawning. I expected it to be Niall, calling to say he got lost.

"It's me, Zayn. Good morning." I felt my face heat up as I thought of something cool and collected to say to him.

"Oh. Hey." I managed. Very cool, Liam.

"Yeah, anyways I was just calling to make sure you didn't die in the night, y'know, just in case." He coughed awkwardly, and I felt the butterflies in my stomach flutter. Did he care about me?

"Well, I'm still alive! Thanks for asking." I flopped down onto my bed, bringing my head down to rest on my arms. Then a thought hit me and I spoke again.

"Oh! Zayn!"

"Mhm?"

"Yesterday you said something about fans. You thought I was a fan, remember?"

"Did I? Oh, yeah. Sorry about that."

"It's cool. But does that mean you're like..."

"I'm in a band." Zayn stated dully, cutting me off. I raised my eyebrows, impressed.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. We're kind of a big deal." He said, sounding awkward.

"Really?"

"Yes really. Are you going to say more than one word at a time?"

"Sorry. I mean, that's really cool! What's the name of the band?"

"Aspire."

"No way." Even I had heard of Aspire. They were the biggest boy band in England, and one of my sisters was totally in love with the dude with curly hair.

"Way. But, Liam...you're not gonna give my number out on twitter or tell anyone, right?" Zayn said anxiously. I was hurt that he'd even think that, and his words filled me with the urge to prove to him that he could trust me.

"Definitely not, to me you're just a cool guy I accidentally dialled who could maybe even be my friend. Maybe."

I heard a faint chuckle and relaxed a little.

"I think a little more than 'maybe'. What about 'probably'?" He replied and I grinned.

"Definitely probably. "

"Yeah."

I had a massive grin on my face that didn't go away for a long time, even when Niall finally came to pick me up.

"So, you gonna tell me what you're so happy about?" He asked, watching me and ignoring the road. We were on the way to his house, and only half way there was I informed he didn't even have a driving license. He suddenly swerved to avoid a bike, and I was thrown against the window like a ragdoll.

"Please don't take your eyes off the road Ni." I muttered weakly, avoiding the question. I didn't want to talk about Zayn with anyone, not after I told him I wouldn't. Also I valued my life and didn't want to die in a carcrash.

"Don't change the subject, Li." He retorted.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Ni." I replied, smiling innocently.

"So was she cute?"

"Huh?" I frowned, puzzled.

"As you won't answer the question I'm assuming it was a girl. So, was she cute?" He asked again, raising his eyebrow. I looked down, feeling guilty. I hadn't told him about the whole I-like-penis thing yet. In fact, I hadn't told anyone. But, new country meant new start, so what the hell.

"It, uh, wasn't a girl. It was a guy." I didn't look at him as I spoke, keeping my eyes trained on my hands. I could tell him that much, as long as I didn't give away who it was everything would be okay. Hopefully.

Niall's foot slammed on the breaks, causing me to jolt forwards. I gasped in surprise and pain, the seatbelt digging in to my chest. I shouldn't have told him. I had ruined everything.

"I..." He began, but I interrupted him.

"I'm sorry Niall, I should've told you earlier, I'll tota-"

"..FUCKING KNEW IT." Niall roared, laughing loudly. He reached over and slapped me round the head. I gaped at him, my eyes wide. How? What? When?! This wasn't the reaction I was expecting but nontheless I was happy. My grin from earlier reappeared and I began laughing along with him.

"How did you know? Since when?!"

"No offence Liam but it wasn't hard to tell. Not to mention the way you dress." Niall shook his head, and I looked down at my clothes.

"What do you mean, the way I dress?! I practically scream heterosexual!" I protested, but he just snorted loudly.

"You're wearing a jumper with turtles on it Liam. Turtles." He grinned at me and I pretended to pout.

"Manly, manly turtles!" I replied, stroking my jumper lovingly.

"'course, whatever you say, Li." Niall winked and the car started moving again, but this time he was driving even more freely, swerving and dodging like a maniac. He flicked on the radio and we both sang along like drunken fools. Niall even started waving his hands in the air until I screamed at him to stop and he nearly hit an old woman.

All in all, the ride to Niall's place went well, and it looked like moving to Ireland was turning out to be the best idea I'd ever made- I had a supporting friend who knew I was gay, a place to live, and somebody quite amazing just a phone call away.
