"Come on, it really can't be that hard!" Louis sighs as Harry gives him a pout, unhappy with Louis's persistence.
"You don't have wings, so you can't fly, and even though you're quite fit, you're also too heavy for me to lift Haz." Louis flutters his wings a little as he perches in his nest above the water. He had moved from his previous clifftop home to the tree that overlooked the cove where Harry spent most of his time. They spent all of their time together, apart from when they ate since Harry was so against any type of carnivorous habits. They got along so well, they never had any problems really, and maybe that should have been the indicator that eventually there would be some sort of falling out.
"I'm not that heavy," Harry huffs, his arms crossing over his chest while his emerald hued tail swished through the water in an irate manner. "I would do it for you, if I was the one with wings." He added as he eyed Louis's feathers. Louis tucked his wings a bit closer to his body as if to hide what Harry already knew was there.
"I'm sorry, but it really isn't safe, what if I dropped you? Especially on land? You could really get hurt and I refuse to be the one that hurts you." Louis mocks Harry's movement, his own arms locking over his bare chest. Harry's tail flicked back and forth quicker under the see-through cerulean water, causing ripples to echo out.
"Too late Louis," he huffed, uncrossing his arms and giving him one last look before suddenly twisting around and diving under the water. Despite how clean it was, it took a few brief seconds for Harry's figure to completely disappear from Louis's sight. Louis groaned to himself, wings stretching out and beating the air in an agitated manner.
Doing the only thing that he knew to do when things went wrong, he took off, abandoning his nest as he flew away from the cove. Flying was the only thing that ever helped Louis get his head on straight, it always had been. Admittedly, this had gotten him in quite a bit of trouble when he was just a young harpy. He'd given his mother many near heart attacks when she discovered his nest empty, and been grounded as soon as she found him. The first time he had flown away, he had only gone a couple trees over, but he felt so independent just sitting on a branch by himself and watching the sun stain the sky as it set beyond the horizon. It had been the best day of his short life at that point, until his mother suddenly landed next to him and started screeching about how he couldn't just leave by himself, especially without even telling her where he was going. Needless to say, Louis was confined to his nest for the next two days as punishment.
Louis landed carefully on an outcrop, preening some of his ruffled feathers before just sitting back on his bum and folding his wings against his body. Harry and he were opposites, that much was obvious. Harry swam the oceans, eating kale and coral for almost every meal. Harry found the beauty in every living thing, whether it be a tree or one of the creatures in his ocean; Harry could find the good in anything, no matter how horrendous it may be. Louis on the other hand, didn't see all of nature as something beautiful and sacred. He saw it as the circle of life, no matter how cliché that may sound, it's just how it was. He had no problem eating other animals, because a lot of them did the same. He had only made that mistake in front of Harry once though, it only took one gasp and a loud splash as Harry retreated for Louis to realize the mistake he made. It took a lot of coaxing, and promises that it would never happen again before Harry had finally resurfaced, wide olive-colored eyes pleading, making Louis reiterate his promise one more time.
But now, Louis felt like he had screwed up on a major scale. Harry had never slapped his tail around the water like he had just done, and Louis recognized it as a sign of his anger and annoyance. Anger wasn't an emotion that Harry seemed to be capable of, it was too dark of a feeling for someone as pure as himself. Or so Louis had thought. Sighing, Louis laid back on the rocky ground beneath him, just closing his eyes as he tried to come up with any kind of solution to the problem at hand.
