I quickly grabbed my knife back from his head and continued running down the alley way. If I run fast enough and stay quiet then they won't be able to find me. I got back onto the street, as I was running I was checking to see if any of the store doors were open, as I expected, they were all closed. Chained up or boarded from the inside. I saw more of them roaming down the street ahead of me, just looking for their next victim to kill. Fear ran through my body making it so that all I could hear was my rapid breath and my black Vans shoes hitting the pavement. The clouds were turning gray and there was barely any sun left, a storm was coming. All the red brick buildings went buy in slow motion as I was running, I guess it was all of the adrenaline pumping through me. I looked down an alleyway to my right as a I was running and saw a ladder leading to the second floor of a building. That was my only chance of getting away.

As I ran towards it I slipped and dropped my backpack but I grabbed it off the pavement immediately, I don't have time to slip up. I could hear a bunch of them behind me, making those disgusting noises and trying their best to keep up with me. I got to the ladder and jumped, grabbing the first bar, when one of them grabbed my foot, if I wouldn't have kicked it off one second before I did, it would have dragged me down. I got to the window that led into the building and it was smashed open. I pushed out the remaining of the glass and climbed in, this must have been the office of, well, whatever this place is... Or was. I scavenged through the brown, wooden desk in the corner, I didn't find anything but files and some whiskey that the owner kept in the bottom drawer, I figure I might need it if worse comes to worse I can sterilize a wound with it, so I take it.

I opened the creaky office door and went down the stairs to the main room. This place was a restaurant, all the windows and the front door were boarded. There were red booths on the sides of the room and tables in the middle, the hardwood walls and floor had almost made it feel like a cabin. I went over to the front entrance of restaurant and grabbed the boards on the window to see how sturdy they were, they would at least keep me safe-

"Hey...!"

Shit, I shouldn't have let my guard down without checking the place. I grabbed my gun and pointed it, without even looking at who I was pointing it at. There in the kitchen doorway was a skinny girl about my age pointing her gun at me. She had gorgeous brown hair that went a few inches past her shoulders and hazel eyes that I could see the color of from here. She was wearing a black baseball tee with black jeans, it certainly wasn't something ideal for the hot, humid weather we were having, and black converse shoes.

"Mind putting your gun down?" She said as she set hers on the floor then kicking it away, "Is it just you in here or am I about to get ambushed? I don't want to get shot while I'm letting my guard down."

"No, it's... It's just me." I said putting my gun down on the floor and kicking it just as she did.

"I found some cans of food in there," She said gesturing toward the kitchen, "You look like you could use it, No offense."

"Do you have something planned, people don't just give out their food anymore. Why are you doing this?"

She raised her eyebrow and said, "Why am I giving you food that I should be eating? I honestly don't know," She smiled, "But don't make me regret it." She went to get the food, 13 cans of different kinds of canned vegetables and beans. I hadn't eaten in days and felt myself slowly getting more and more weak, so I put my better judgment aside and decided that I could at least eat one can and be on my way. She set out all the different cans in front of me and chose one for herself.

"Jordyn," She said putting her hand out in front of her for me to shake.

Shaking her hand I replied, "Cassie"
