Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Mackenzie packing up. "Hey Kenz, where ya going?" She doesn't look me in the eye, she stares down at her duffel, quickly packing up. "I'm going to take up soccer." She says. "Why would you do that?
"Because I want to." She says.
"Okay then, bye, Kenzie." I put my arms around her but she doesn't hug back. "Bye."
Abby was furious. She made us jog for thirty minutes. We couldn't walk. I overheard Abby talking to Gianna. "I don't know what the hell Melissa was thinking, but she said it was "her choice." And I said, "Melissa! She's 11! What "choices" can SHE make? It's not like she can decide who will become the next president or whatever!"
"I agree..." Gianna said. I had heard enough.
I went back to stretching with the other girls. "Hey, Jojo, can I see you after class?" Abby says. "Sure." She nods. It's not like she could protest and say, "No, you can't." You know what? We should all protest! I need to tell all of the girls. But there is this one girl I think will say, "I'm not going to protest with you guys, I'm going to keep dancing." And it is not Jennifer, but I have a feeling Jennifer will say that too.
