I had a lot of fun choosing what to wear from my new closet, especially as I felt I should wear something a bit more rock 'n' roll for Dexter's set. He'd said he played a mixture of indie and rock music, which was something I was looking forward to. I ended up putting on a pair of dark red leather pants, the thick material having cost a lot but worth it, and a loose-fitting black top with some fringing on the sleeves. I also added an arm cuff and wore a pair of black, high heeled boots.
When Benjamin saw me, he gave a slow clap. "She finally gets it!" he chuckled, and I don't think he realised what he was doing when he lightly touched my cheek. It was natural. "Seriously, though, you look good. Really good."
In turn, I lightly tugged on the edge of the polo shirt he wore. It was one of those trendy patterned ones that clearly showed off his muscled biceps and sculpted body and, paired with his wire-framed glasses, I barely managed to stop myself from attacking him with another kiss. Oh, how much I wanted to kiss him; to lay my body over his, knot my hands in his hair and plant my lips on those full, luscious-
"You look good, too," I said as I swallowed heavily, trying to ignore my dirty thoughts and failing miserably. I quickly stepped back from him.
To distract myself, I got to work on my hair, which I threw up into a messy bun on my head. He simply sat on my bed and waited patiently, not saying a word as I made last-minute touch-ups to my eyeliner or as I did a final coat of nail varnish on my nails. In a way, his stare was almost indulgent; kind of like he found it cute I was so excited to go and hang out with some new people.
"Okay, let's go."
Liners was only across the street from Shapes, but I wasn't worried about any chance encounters with Trevor happening again. As we up at the noisy club, already lit with loud music from another band, Benjamin finally asked me about what happened the other night.
"Shapes isn't exactly far away," he said, jerking his over towards the other club. "Obviously you didn't tell me what happened, but will-"
"It's fine," I interjected. "It was just Chelsea's psycho ex-boyfriend. He deals in there and I knew he wouldn't let us leave."
"Oh, just?" he scoffed as we got out of the car. We began to head inside. "How do you know he won't venture over here?"
"He won't," I replied assuredly we entered and I found Noah's head of dark brown hair in the crowd; he was sitting at a booth relatively near to the stage. "He told me once that the type of people in there- techno fans and people like that- are more likely to be looking for drugs, so he only goes in there."
Benjamin still didn't look convinced but started to make his way through the crowd, clearing a path between the closely-packed bodies so that I could get through with ease. Some nerves were trying to fight their way through to my mind, all of them prodding at the insecurities that wondered if I was intruding on a group of friends' night out, but I forced them down. If it was awkward, I would have Benjamin.
Thankfully, my fears turned out to be as irrational as I knew they would be and it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Well, Benjamin was as stony to everybody as usual and didn't say anything unless he was spoken to, but that was to be expected.
"Hey, you're wearing some of your new clothes," said Dexter when he came over, obviously having just practiced backstage if the clamminess of his forehead was anything to go by. He only lingered by the table, clearly needing to go back soon and only having come over for a quick hello. "They look good. Hi, Benji!"
Benjamin stared at him with hard eyes. "I'd appreciate it if you would call me by my full name."
Dexter raised one hand to his chest, feigning hurt, while he pointed the other at me accusingly. "She calls you Venya! Am I not good enough for a nickname? Is that it? And I thought we had something special."
