Chapter Twelve: Star City

Star City, 12/19/15, 4:34 PM

"RUN!"  Courtney yelled as she blasted back the parademon.  It scrambled towards her growling and screeching, "I SAID RUN!"  She yelled again as the civilians ran beneath her, she was floating in the air as she blasted back the parademon with her staff.  Another leaped over it flying at her, but something knocked it away.  She looked over as Blue Devil slammed into the other parademon with his trident.  Its head burst open as he stabbed into it.  A tornado whirled up as more parademons flew in.  Red Tornado flew into the air blocking them from attacking, for now.

"We need to go!"  Blue Devil yelled to Stargirl as she blasted another parademon back, "We can't fight them all!"

Stargirl slammed her staff into another parademon as it flew past Red Tornado.  She stabbed through its chin and drove it into the ground twisting her staff and breaking its jaw.  She blasted it several times until it stopped squirming.

"Where?"  Star girl asked as Blue Devil kicked another parademon back and blasted at it.

"Find us a way out!"  Blue Devil yelled as he punched the creature back and teleported behind it, "We don't have that much time!"

Stargirl flew back looking around for an opening in the fray, but there was not much to go by.  The civilians had moved through a tunnel, but it had collapsed when one parademon attempted to follow them out.  She looked over at a sewer grate widening her eyes as she found their way out.

"There!"  She yelled moving to the grate and opening it, "COME ON!"  She screamed as Blue Devil teleported to her, "RED TORNADO!"

The android began to turn around to move to them, but one of the parademons caught onto the android's shoulder biting into the metal.  Red Tornado punched the creature back, but another bit onto his leg.  Red Tornado created another tornado, but one parademon let out an energy blast piercing Red Tornado's chest.  He fell to the ground and Stargirl watched with widened eyes as he reached towards them, but a parademon landed on his arm.

"NO!"  She screamed blasting at the creatures as they clustered around him, but Blue Devil pulled her in as the parademons screeched.

"Come on!  A sewer grate isn't going to stop them!"  Blue Devil yelled as he flew through the tunnel pulling her along.

"We... We just left him there..."  Stargirl whispered as she flew close behind, "He's gone..."

"We can rebuild him!"  Blue Devil yelled back, "But we can't rebuild either of us, we need to get out of Star City!"

"NO!"  Stargirl yelled stopping mid-air now, "I'm not leaving those people!"

"We have no choice!"  Blue Devil snapped back, "Darkseid wants heroes dead, he's going to only kidnap those people like the others!  We can still save them if we don't allow ourselves to die!"

Stargirl looked back down the tunnel as she heard a loud crash.  The parademons were coming for them.  She looked back at Blue Devil as he sighed and began to turn around, "We need to save them, but first we have to save ourselves."

"Fine."  Stargirl shook as she breathed in and followed Blue Devil through the tunnel, they had no choice.  In order to save the world, they had to save themselves first.

"How do we stop Darkseid?"  Stargirl asked as she flew alongside Blue Devil, "He's got an entire army and a huge fortress!"

"We've beaten him before, we just need to find him."  Blue Devil said looking back at her, "But first we need to regroup with the entire Justice-"

"NOT SO FAST!"  A voice yelled blasting Blue Devil into the wall and nearly hitting Stargirl too.

She raised an energy shield around herself as more red magic blasted at her.  She looked up as she recognized Klarion the Witch Boy floating before her.
