Ambrose walks along my side as we approach the cities church steeple.

"Quickly, we should be able to stay at the church steeple for now, till the guards finish they're patrols" i say. "Alright, but is it safe there?" panting as he says it,"Of course, it's a church for crying out loud" I snap back at him. "well then, no need to be defensive" "Whatever, just come quickly before we're caught"

                                                                                     ********************

We run up the steps to the doors of the steeple. When we reach the the doors we calm our pace. I remember a way up to the steeples loft from that we can use to get to the roof. "follow me, and stay quiet. Last thing we need right now is attention" I say. We walk into the left, past the doors. All the way in the corner is a staircase that goes up to the hay loft. We reach the loft and i head over to a window that opens up to the roof. I grab the window trimming and swing myself out onto the roof.

I turn around to see Ambrose staggering out on to the roof. "What's the problem, you scared of heights or something?" i say "no.. just of falling i guess." says Ambrose with an uncertain voice "Well then get up here" "o...ok, wh-" "Quickly come on!" i say. "alright alright, calm down." "pff no wonder you couldn't out run those guards" i say under my breath. "huh.. what did you say?" says Ambrose as he tries to climb his way up the slanted roof. "Nothing heh-heh". We reach the peak of the roof, i lean against the steeple tower and Ambrose sits over by the edge with his feet dangling off.

"So Poz, right?"mutters Ambrose "mmhm..." i reply. "So, why did you help me in that alley, you don't seem some much like the selfless type" "First of all you don't know me enough to assume the kind of person i am, secondly the reason why i helped you is because you seem familiar" "what do you mean i look familiar" "your eyes; they're just like mine" I notice that Ambrose starts to tap on his wrist nervously. "what's the matter" i say.

"I-... well it's a long story." I could tell he was being hesitant, "well I have plenty of time,.. and if you tell me I'll tell you why my eyes are the way they are, deal?" He pauses for a second. "Fine I guess" he says with a big sigh. "Well I haven't always looked like this, I used to have brown eyes and golden brown hair." For me this was kind of hard to believe he could've looked any different from how he does now "what I did for a living wasn't so different as it is now, I've been thief since I was little child." He hangs his head low when he says this, as if he's ashamed. "It wasn't until I was 13 when people started coming to me, asking if I could steal stuff for them, and they'd pay me. So this is what I did to get by in life" again looking down at his feet. He looks up to me and says, "I didn't like stealing all the time you know, I just did what I had to do." I knew that feeling. "we all have to do whatever it takes to make ends meet... as bad as it may be" I mutter with a sigh. "Yea.. I guess" he says. He lets out a big sigh.

"The main reason why I did all this too was to take care of my little sister, she was 7 at the time. When me and her were young, our father left us and a few years later our mother died from sickness, I was all my sister had and she was all I had. I had to do whatever I had to do to take care of her. And what I had to do was steal" I raise my eyebrow at him intrigued by what he is telling me. But still impatient to why his eyes are purple like mine. "How does all of this have anything to do with your eyes being like mine."

Ambrose glares at me and says "let me get to that part" "well hurry" I say "It's almost sun down, it'll be dangerous out soon".

" alright alright"... "so when I was 15 a man came to me with a request" "what was it" I snap. "an orb" he replies "what color was it!" I catch myself speaking a little too hastily "... the orb had a weird purple haze."

Right then and there I knew exactly what he was talking about. For four years my master has been having me search for the shards that once made up this magical orb. My master's name is Maybis. The reason I've always considered him my master was, soon after I took up this body I had nowhere to go, and no one to help me. Except Maybis, he saw value in me he was willing to help me. Maybis was an alchemist,he knew a lot about magic, and He was also the one who taught me a lot about magic, including the orb...The reason why I'm like this. The orb is the path to what some people call the place between heaven and hell. There is only two ways to get there. One would be to touch the orb, or the orb chooses you. The orb only uses souls that were thought to have had an unfair life, and I was one of these souls.

"So during the job I went to grab th-" " You touched it and it brought you to a mysterious place. I know what it is and what it does." " so the same thing that happened to me happen to you?" "not quite" " well wha-" "It's getting late" I say this to keep him from asking. How I became who I am now is something I usually choose not to talk about. "you can stay in the church's attic for tonight if you like" I know I shouldn't offer that as a place to stay without asking the priest first, but Ambrose has nowhere else to stay for the night. "Thank you" I can tell he says this with gratitude in his voice. "don't mention it." I started towards the edge of the roof. Just before I was about to drop down into the villa I hear Ambrose ask something. "Do you think we'll ever meet again." I look back at him with a smirk and say "maybe". I drop down into the villa and start to head back towards Maybis's hideout. It's a quiet night. A peaceful night.
