AN: (12-05-2012) This was a pain to edit! Oh my gosh! But I had to. I felt like I couldn't move forward with the plot and the story unless I did. Now that I've fixed some of the plot holes and organized things a bit better, I feel like I'll be able to write new chapters and progress with the story. Another thing that bugged me was how short this chapter was originally.

Hopefully it has more meat to it now, and it's not just the skeleton it used to be...

I'm so sorry for the wait and the inconvenience, but it had to be done! I hope you like the edit (or at least don't hate it), and thank you for your encouragement!

Hopefully the newest chapter will be finished soon!

Chapter Two: Together Again

Regina sighed as she walked home from the train station alone. Her sister, Annalynn was supposed to have picked her up. They had both agreed, when Regina graduated high school a year early at 17 (like her sister before her had, who was a year older), that when Regina finished her four years of college, Annalynn would be there and they'd rent an apartment to share. But soon after Annalynn had completed her freshman year of college, and right after attending Regina's high school graduation, she had gone missing. Despite having been missing for four years, however, Regina's mother was infuriatingly calm. As if she knew exactly where her oldest daughter was and wasn't concerned in the least...

Perhaps that was too harsh. Regina knew her mother worried...but all the same, she was still quite certain that her mother knew more about the circumstances than she was letting on.

When she asked her mother about it when she had been home for the holidays, all she would say was that her sister was fine.

"Honestly, Regina! Your sister is fine! She's perfectly alive and uninjured as far as I know!" said Elena huffily, as she continued to furiously scrub the remnants of their New Year's feast off of the dishes.

"And what, exactly, DO you know? You're not telling me everything! I know you're not!" Regina accused.

Elena would not meet her daughter's eyes.

"I haven't the slightest idea what you mean," she protested half-heartedly.

"Mother!" she cried, "My older sister, my best friend in the entire world has been missing for three years! Nearly four! Any normal mother who had a daughter who went missing for longer than a day or so would have panicked and called the authorities and searched frantically! But you are eerliy calm...almost as if you know exactly where she is! Your aversion to the subject is starting to frighten me..." suddenly a thought occurred to Regina. One that was wholly morbid.

"My God..." she breathed in shock.

Her mother's eyes snapped up to her daughters' in concern at the hysterical tone in Regina's voice.

"Regina, what's wro--" she began.

"You haven't...killed her! Have you?!" she shrieked, stumbling away from her mother in wide-eyed horror.

Elena recoiled as violently as if Regina had struck her. Which, she might as well have, considering how hurtful the hurled accusation was. It would have hurt much less if she had been punched than to have to witness the look of utter betrayal, horror, despair, and terrible accusation that was on her beloved daughter's face.

"God, Regina, NO!" she breathed, completely aghast, as she stumbled back in disbelief. She was dimly aware of the sound of breaking glass in the background, as her hand went to her chest, clutching it as if that would help smother the ache that was beginning to set in. She leaned weakly against the counter and fought the tears she could feel coming.
