Painful Drowning

You left me standing there

No one beside me, no one who cared.

The look you hurled pierced through my heart

As you marched away I was torn apart.

You didn't want to see the anguish in my eyes

As I bled silently, fatally, as I died.

You couldn't bear to watch me writhe

So you turned your back and walked away.

You dug my grave and pushed me in

And drove the nails into my coffin.

Berkeley alive, fighting for air

Why does my heart justify you?

You left me to the sharks

The life-ring had no rope.

An icy numbness stopped my blood

But any emotion was long gone now.

No tears are there; they've all dried up

Betrayal is too great for words

And words were what began this death,

The words 'I just don't care'.
