Lily's POV

As I stare up past his strong jawline, my mouth hangs open. I can feel the amount of questions threatening to spill out of my mouth and just as I am about to close my agape jaw he reaches over and taps it closed himself. The confusion must be clear on my face because that hurt look comes back. The one that tells me that I did something wrong and only I can fix it. The look that tells me that underneath all of that tough demeanour, is a human being hoping for love. The only problem is that James Potter wants more from me, then I can give him.

"I... I thought... Marlene told me that it wasn't... but... how?"

Smirking he lounges across from me and manages to answer my indecipherable question. "Dumbledore decided that I mustn't be as bad as you think."

It must be at joke. There has got to be an explanation to all of this. As I try to solve the mystery. He can't be this good at lying. Maybe I am being pranked!

"I know it! You and Remus planned this! You took his badge so that you could come in here and fool me. He is really Head Boy isn't he? Guess what? You failed at tricking me!"

"Good, because this isn't a trick. Remus isn't Head Boy, I am! Can't you just accept that I am decent enough to be Head Boy? Dumbledore decided that I was good enough. Is it that hard to believe?"

His eyes stayed on me the whole time. He wasn't biting his lip. He didn't fidget. He wasn't doing any of the things he normally does when he lies.

"Why can't I accept it? Because I do not want to accept it! Accepting it means that you have changed, meaning that you may be a better person than what I give you credit for. Accepting it means that you and I live together. Bloody hell! I got sick of you when we lived in the same common room, now I have to live in close quarters with you?"

"Darling, those are the benefits." He really does know how to make a girl want to barf!

"If you truly are Head Boy than you will sit down and shut up! Deal?" Yay! We are back to our old ways. Me glaring at him and him staring at me with lovey eyes.

"As you wish, Cupcake."

Once again the door swings open and in fills 24 prefects. Some of them I recognise, others are completely new faces. One Slytherin boy, Regulus I think his name is walks in, looks at James and me and sighs.

"Of course they had to both come from Gryffindor! Oh and Potter? How is dear old Sirius? The house is a lot cleaner now that that piece of filth is gone."

James just ignores him and makes conversation with a nearby Gryffindor girl.

"Potter? I am talking to you!"

"Black? I am ignoring you!"

Smiling, I tell Regulus and the others to take a seat. I finally realise that they are all seated and waiting for me to say something. Oops.

"Okay. So, well, good job at becoming Prefects." You could probably hear a pin drop if you tried, there was not a single other sound in the room. I look at James for help and he continues with what I was saying.

"To those who are new here, being a Prefect is like being a helping hand as well as being police. You have to give people advice when they need it and also patrol the grounds at night time. The thing we are doing now is figuring out when your patrolling time is. You patrol for 2 hours each week in a certain area with the other Prefect from your house in your year. Do you understand?"

Everyone eagerly nods and that is when I finally realise why Dumbledore chose James as the other Head. It is because he holds the crowd's attention. Surprisingly, I believe that we would work as a good team. Me the one behind the laws and ideas and him as the one who gets everyone else to believe it.
