My body was freezing as I sat alone on the park bench looking out to the clear water below. My hands were numb and my breathing was coming out in little white puffs. I throw on my Parker and put some gloves on hoping the cold night air won't get through. I look across the lake and smile. It's finally silent. No more drama, no more worries, I'm free.

I laugh, it feels so foreign to laugh again.
I haven't in a long time. I stand up and spin in circles whilst laughing in the park. I've never felt so happy, so alive.
I have no expectations, no disappointments, I'm finally free.
I lay down on the dewing grass below and look up at the stars. My body's to numb to feel the cold air anymore and I'm to happy to care. I look at the sky and slowly close my eyes happy that I'm finally at peace.

"You think she's alive?"
"Course she's alive you idiot"
"What do I do?"
"I don't know poke her with a stick?"

I quickly open my eyes and sit up.
I look around at the park and my eyes settle on the two boys in front of me.
They couldn't be older then 10.
One had blue eyes with blond curly ringlets and the other had the same blue eyes but brown straight hair.

"Who are you?" The blond one asks. "I'm Grace and you are?" I say slowly.
" I'm Chris and this here is my idiot of a brother Joseph" the blond one says.
"I ain't stupid!" Joseph shouts outraged. Chris slaps his hand against his forehead in aggravation. "I never said you were stupid!" Chris says in exasperation. "Yes you did, I'm telling mum!" Joseph quickly runs off onto a pathway with his brother shouting and running behind him.

I chuckled. I slowly sat up and walked over to the bench and grabbed my duffel bag and started walking off again.

My legs felt numb from walking so far. I felt the sweat tumbling it's way down my face from the scorching heat. I turn into a cafe to eat when I see my sister, Alison. I forgot she goes to kindle street every weekend to catch up with friends. She was laughing and smiling at her friends. I quickly grab my jumper from my bag and put it on remembering to pull the hoodie up as well.

I quietly walk into the cafe and sit in a booth behind her.
"What are you doing for your birthday Alison?" One of her friends ask.
"You know the usual" She sighs out.
"Is your sister Grace gonna be there?"
"Of course not! Anyway I think she got all emotional yesterday and ran, but we know she'll come back. Mum say she's just on her period, I'm just hoping she returns after the party" she cackles on.

I wanted to brake down right then and there but I didn't. I slowly got out of the booth and walked out of the cafe. I won't let my tears fall for my past, my mistakes because that's all they will really be. A memory.
