I laid in my bed, watching the ceiling fan spin. Letting the silence deafen me.

I had turned seventeen a month ago, it was now the middle of December. Christmas was in little under a week. The house was decorated in decorations, I like it.

I turned my head over to the clock near my bed, 6:20 am. Another sleepless night, I got up and walked into my bathroom. I brushed through my tangled brown hair and washed my face.

Adjusting my wool sweater I looked at my outfit in my mirror. Black leggings, combat boots and a dark grey wool sweater with a white infinity scarf.

"Elena!" I heard my mom call. "You're going to miss your bus!"

"I'll be right down!" I yelled back.

I walked down the stairs and watched as my brother walked out the door, "Better catch up with him if you want a free ride." My mom joked, I smiled. "I'll pass, his driving is horrendous." She laughed and gave me a hug followed by a kiss on the forehead. "Don't forget after school you have work." I nodded in response, "I won't. Love you."

Once outside the cold air burned my throat as I walked over to my car. The windows had already been scraped free of snow, once inside I waited a few moments letting the inside heat up. Stevie Wonder's Master Blaster was playing, I hummed along with it until I reached school.

I pulled my purse over my shoulder and pulled the collar on my jacket higher as the wind picked up.

I went straight to the cafeteria and picked up some tea, then heading upstairs towards my locker. "Elena!" I turned my head to see my best friend Joyce walking up to me, she had a coffee from the cafeteria in one hand.  She stopped in front of me and looked me up and down. "Damn girl." She smiled. Her locker was next to mine and given her jacket was still on I could tell she hadn't been to it yet.

"What day is it today?" I asked, "Day one." She replied. "I have Cosmetology today." I groaned. "Hey, at least you're not stuck in robotics."

"What do you do in that class anyway?" I asked, "That's what I still don't know!" she exclaimed.

"Didn't know you skipped classes."

"That's the thing, I don't!" we burst out laughing.

Once we got to our lockers I placed my tea on the top shelf, and took off my jacket. Simon walked over and leaned against the locker next to mine. "Hey shorty." He smiled at me. I rolled my eyes, "I'm not short. You're just tall."

He laughed and patted me on the head like a dog, I moved out from under his hand and grabbed my binder and textbook for my first two classes. I handed him my tea to hold, "Gross." He gagged, I ignored him and locked my locker. Turning to him I grabbed my tea "Thank you." Joyce and I walked around him and headed to the stairwell for our morning classes. He followed behind us.

"Why do you go to class so early anyway?" he asked, "I like to get there and enter the room while it's still peaceful." I could feel his gaze resting on my back.

I wasn't the type of person to socialize, I'd rather sit somewhere quiet and read a book with my headphones in.

"For a girl who listens to scream-o music, you really do enjoy your peace and quiet." He laughed, I rolled my eyes. "Scream-o is peaceful." Him and Joyce laughed, "Darling, I don't know what goes on in your head but I love you." She chuckled.

I sighed and walked into the class, Mr. Pollen was sitting at his desk. "Morning Ms. Simone."

"Morning Mr. Pollen." I replied, I placed my things on my desk and looked at my phone. 8:20 am. I still had ten minutes till class started, "Let's go see who's here." Joyce said, I nodded and walked with her.  Simon of course following behind, "Elena!" A group of people walked over to me, I smiled and said hello.
