Chapter 2- What if He Lived?

Annie's POV
It all happened so fast, one minute mom was yelling at us to call the ambulance. The next, we were in the hospital rushing to save Caleb's life. We get inside the hospital and Caleb is rushed inside. He looked really bad.
"Mommy, I'm scared!" Hayley screams and clings onto her. I just stand there speechless and so does Katie.
"I know baby, I know." She hugs us all.
"Girls, I just want you guys to stay strong through this. Billy is on his way."
A few hours later we are waiting in a room they provided us. We are all staying over night. Katie's family is out of town right now and they are driving as fast as they can to get to the hospital.
"I just got off the phone with your parents Katie, they are coming tomorrow morning.
"Thank you Mrs. Katie." She answers
"Mom," I say with tear stains on my face," is Caleb okay?" Mom looks down.
"I don't know baby girl, we'll have to wait till the doctor tells us." She starts stroking Hayley's hair. She's been strong through the past few hours. I don't think she knows exactly what's going on.

A few minutes later a nice nurse comes in the room. Daddy stands up in hopes of some information.
"Hey everyone, we don't have much information yet, but for now I have these stuffed bears for the girls."
Katie smiles and says thank you. She takes the bears and hands them to us. We fell asleep right then and there.

"No!" I wake up from a nightmare. Katie wakes up.
"Annie are you okay?"
"No. No I am not." I run out of the room and Katie chases after me. I sit down on the bench outside our room.
"Annie, I'm here for you. I understand what you are going through."
"No. No you don't. I've known my brother all my life. I'm too young to go through this." I start bawling.
Katie wipes my tears and hugs me.
"What if he died?" I look at Katie in the eyes. A few seconds later she speaks.
"What if he lived?"
That's exactly what he did.
