I was standing at the Simple Plan concert alone, when the amount of people around me became to much and I couldn't take it anymore. My anxiety got the best of me and I started hyperventilating. I completely forgot I was standing next to strangers, and of course one stranger just had to notice my attack.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked me, while putting his hand on my shoulder. I jumped backwards and gave him a shocked looking face. He put his hands up in defense. I took that time to study on what he looked like. He had blue and blond hair, and he was wearing think black eyeliner. His nails were pained the same blue as his hair. His eyes are crystal blue. He wasn't bad looking.
"I'm sorry for scaring you, I was just worried that you were going to pass out if you didn't have help." He sounded hurt, and confused. I didn't know what to say so I ran off. I couldn't stop my feet from moving. I'm a coward and that's all I'll ever be. The fuck up who runs away from their problems.
I kept running, and I didn't know when I was going to stop. I finally stopped moving to sit at this bench outside of the venue. I pondered about what exactly just happened, and realized I ran out of the Simple Plan concert, and the worst part was, re-entry wasn't fucking allowed. I put my head in my hands and sighed loudly, then I heard someone walk over and sit next to me.
It was the stranger from the concert. He just sat there, not looking at me, not saying anything, just sitting there. I slowly lifted my head up, and he smiled at me. For some odd reason his smile made me feel all warm inside. It was genuine, and I could tell it wasn't forced. I forced myself to say something though, before anything became to awkward.
"I'm sorry for what happened back there. I love going to concerts, to see a band live is the greatest experience. I'm just not so good around large crowds of people." I tried explaining my episode briefly, leaving out certain details.
"Hey, don't apologize, it's not your fault." He said. His eyes looked sad, like there was so much more he wanted to say, but couldn't find the words. I just smiled back, and looked at the sky. It was beautiful. I closed my eyes and inhaled, realizing how perfect the weather was at the moment. I was pulled out of my moment when he started speaking.
"Uh, well you seem really cool, and you have a great taste in music. Text me sometime?" He asked, giving me a small smile.
"Yeah, I'd like that." I answered, with a small smile. Inside I was shocked at what I said. I just agreed to exchange numbers with a complete stranger who I know nothing about.
"What's your name?" I just blurted out at lightening speed. I covered my mouth as soon as it came out. He laughed for a second before answering my question.
"Uh, do you know who Marianas Trench are? Like the band?" He asked, blurting it out just like me. He kind of caught me off guard and I fell off the bench.
"Wait what? Who?!" I don't know who they are. There name is pretty cool. I might look them up later when I get home.
"Okay so you don't know who they are. Stupid question I'm sorry. My name's Josh." He answered. I got sort of suspicious, but it didn't really matter. I smiled and told him my name was Emma.
"I actually really like your name, it suits you in a way." He smiled back. We got to actually know each other. I found out that his favorite color's blue, he plays guitar, his best friend's name is Matt, and his favorite band is Marianas Trench. At the mentioning of the band, now I really want to hear what they sound like.
I told him I was born and raised in New Jersey, USA, but I moved to Vancouver, Canada to just have a change in scenery. My favorite color is also blue, and I also sort of play the ukulele too.
It was starting to get kind of late, so I gave him my number, and he gave me his, with open promises to text each other and set a day to hang out again. I really liked him, and I think I've never felt so attached to someone in less than three hours.
The walk home was boring. My phone actually ended up dying on the walk home, so I couldn't even listen to music like I always do. My phone dying meant that I couldn't text Josh, which made sadness wash over me. I shivered before deciding I needed to get home as fast as I could. I ran and ran until I ran up to my front door. I fished for my keys in my pocket, opened the door, and walked up the stairs to my room.
"I plugged my phone into the charger, and got even more sad because I have an iPhone, meaning it wont turn on for another fifteen minutes. To pass the time, I decided on a shower.
I walked into the bathroom and turned the water on to adjust the temperature. I stripped all my clothes off, and I made the mistake of looking in the mirror. I stood there pondering over the fact that I really hate myself. Yeah I might be skinny, but I have a lot of scars. I suffer with self harm, and at that moment, it's never been so strong. I grabbed my box out of the sink drawer, and pulled out a new blade. I never re-use blades, because I'm not very fond of getting an infection.
I took the blade, and made four fresh cuts on my thigh. There I stood watching the blood run down my leg. Before it could get on my bathroom carpet, I stepped into the shower, and forgot I never adjusted the temperature, so the hot water made me jump and flinch when it hit the new ones. I quickly adjusted the water, and took a quick ten minute shower.
I dried myself off with a towel before wrapping my hair in a towel and walking to my room. I got dressed in underwear and a long shirt before going to check my phone. I had three unread texts from an unknown number. I smiled to myself when I thought about Josh.
I opened all of them, and they read...
"Hey Emma, it's Josh. I decided on texting you because talking to you makes me happy!" - Josh
"Are you okay? I know you had to walk home, but you not texting me back is worrying me." - Josh
"Emma, please text me back, it's making me anxious, I'm so worried!" - Josh
"Josh, I'm fine. I'm so glad you care though, it's really sweet. :)" - Emma. As soon as I pressed send, no longer than thirty seconds later, I got a response.
"Hey Emma, what happened? Why didn't you text me back?" - Josh. He was worried, and that made him 10x more attractive. I catch myself thinking about him more and more. Shut up Emma, he's clearly not into you. Ugh, I sigh loudly before typing back a short answer.
"I'm okay Josh, my phone just died on my way home. It takes forever for an iPhone to charge." I locked my phone, and took the towel off my hair. My phone beeps, and I check the message and shriek when it's my best friend texting me. Her name is Miranda, and she's my only friend from New Jersey. I nearly drop my phone with excitement when I read her message.
"I'm coming to live with you. You better be excited to see your new roommate!" - Miranda.
