Chapter 1:
“My life is perfect.” I thought to myself as I sat there with my two best friends, Mia and Hailey, at lunch. My life hasn’t been easy growing up, but right now, it’s pretty damn great. My family and I are so close and my friends are my rocks to hold on to when life gets rough. I live in a pretty house and have a pretty BMW. What else could I want?
“HEY! Are you even listening Taylor?” My thoughts were interrupted by my best friend Mia. She hated when I tuned her out.
“Yes, I heard everything you said about how hot Cody is…” Mia has been crazy about this guy since the 8th grade. We are now seniors. She seriously needs to make a move already.
“Are you going to ever talk to him?” Hailey chimed in.
“Eh, I’m not ready.” Mia said shyly as usual.
Mia is saved by the school bell letting us know that lunch is over.
ONE WEEK LATER.
It’s funny to think that just a week ago the biggest problem we had was trying to figure out when Mia will be brave enough to talk to Cody. What’s our biggest problem now? We are in the middle of a crisis. Not the “what do I wear today” kind of crisis. But the “what happened to my best friend” crisis. You see… tonight Hailey and I got calls from Mia’s mom asking us if we knew where she was. Creepy thing is we were thinking the same thing.
My life all of a sudden felt like a blur. Nothing mattered other than, “where is Mia?” Immediately, Hailey and I go over to Mia’s house to try and figure this out. Mia didn’t tell us anything about where she was going tonight. Us and Mia’s family all were sitting in a circle in their living room searching our brains for answers. She had been missing for over 9 hours. This was unlike Mia. Something was wrong.
But then I suddenly remember… the last text I got from Mia said, “Idk what is wrong with me. I’m gonna find out.”
We all had no idea what this meant. But we had to figure it out quick. We sat there puzzled while we re-read the last text I got from Mia. I could feel the chills going down my arm as I read it again.
"There is something..." Mia's mom, Charlotte, managed to speak through her sobs.
"What is it?" Hailey asked.
"The last month Mia has been telling me that she was having these awful dreams. But she never told me details."
"She's been having weird dreams for the past month?" I said, unsure that this was a real issue worth discussing.
"Yes. They terrified her though, that's all I know." Charlotte may have said that's all she knew but it felt differently to Hailey and I. Was there something she knew that she was hiding?
"Huh, I wonder-" before I could continue with my thought the police showed up and started asking questions.
I felt like I was in a movie scene. Cops interviewing everyone, dogs sniffing out Mia's clothes trying to get her scent, and Hailey and I sitting there on the verge of breaking down completely. The police had done all they could do for the night. It was almost 2a.m. now and none of us were going to be able to sleep tonight.
"Hey Taylor?" I looked over to see Hailey looking at me with tears coming down her face.
"Yeah?"
"Do you think..." She paused.
"NO!" I knew what she was going to say. She was thinking that Mia was dead. I refused to believe that. I wouldn't... I couldn't.
*Mia* POV
I know it wasn't right to leave my family and best friends like that. But it's the only way I'm going to get answers. There is a secret about me that I can't figure out. And no one at home is helping me. The dreams I have been having are horrendous, I would fall asleep to a girl screaming, a blood curdling scream. Then I would wake up to a girl crying. I was starting to go crazy! But as soon as I was aware of my surroundings the girls cries and screams would go away. It was only when I started "dreaming" while at school when I realized that this wasn't normal.
I was on a mission to find out the truth. There has been this legend about women in my family being able to feel the past emotions of relatives or close friends. I had always thought this was rubish. But with the recent events I'm starting to think that there's even more to this story than I was being told. There was only one way to find out. Go to my Uncle Jeremiah's house. He knew everything about this legend because his mother had claimed to have this ability. My Uncle lived in Florida. I lived in Arizona. This was going to be one hell of a journey.
Note: Hey guys! I'm new to this website! I've been writing all my life and decided to give this a try! This is a new idea for a story ( not sure about it yet) but let me know what you all think please and if I should continue!! I know it's not a lot but that's because i'm unsure if it's interesting to you guys. So let me know! :) thanks!!!
