In 1950, the original design was improved as a result of which Mies fully welded object in which the extra parentheses in the weld points have been eliminated. Solid stainless steel frame offers greater durability and spring.
In the United States, the design was popularized by George Nelson. The chair was originally handmade, but later it was mass produced and sold by the company, Knoll Associates, which is now producing it in the U.S. and 29 other countries.
