"So, shy kid," I started, stepping out of my desk after the bell sounded for the end of the period, "perfect attendance, I am guessing?"
Ara Bella nodded her head quickly, her dark orbs piercing the ground.
I sighed and lead her to the door. "Come with me," I commanded, motioning her. She hesitated for a second, then piped her head up and followed.
"Where are we going?" Ara Bella asked, biting her nails while dragging her small feet behind me.
"We," I smirked, leading her to one of the school exits, "are ditching."
Her eyes widened, she pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and shook her head furiously. "Are you kidding me?" she hissed, "my father and teachers would kill me."
"Do you think I do this with being caught?" I smiled, rolling my eyes as I leaned against the glass door. People started to file out of the hall way. "You're fine."
She crossed her arms. "How do you suppose we are going to get out of here without getting caught? Don't the doors sound?"
"Jeez, Smith, do you think I am a newbie at this?" I asked, waving a key in her face.
"How did you-"
"I stole the key off a teacher."
"But-"
"Are you gonna come or not?" I asked, sticking the key into the hole, pushing the door open to let us free.
Ara Bella rolled her eyes with a smile and stepped out of the building. "Fine," she chuckled, "but if you get me caught, I'll- uh... Do something."
"Alright, tough guy," I laughed, walking through the parking lot, looking for my car. It was a gloomy day; complete overcast.
I found my car and unlocked it then climbed in. I motioned Ara Bella to come in also. She covered her palms with her sweater sleeves, took a deep breath, and climbed in.
"Where are you taking me?" She said, glancing, taking in the interior of my car. I turned on the engine.
"I don't know," I mummered, turning my car out of the parking lot. "I usually like to sit in that forest on Elm St., and scroll through the internet alone."
"You're so edgy," Ara Bella joked, giggling.
"Shut up."
We pulled into the empty parking lot and turned off the car. "Ready?" I smirked, climbing out of the car.
I lead Ara Bella to the tall trees, the soles of our shoes stomped against the leaves loudly. My blue and purple hair blowed wildly in the wind.
I decided to sit on a boulder and set my backpack down. "Well, here we are."
I watched her soft face look around the forest. "I would've thought a tough person like you would've picked something different," she mumbled.
"Like what?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Ara Bella flinched, then looked down. "Never mind, sorry."
I looked at her face puzzlingly. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing..." She said, eyes meeting mine.
"Come on, tell me. You obviously have something against me," I urged, "you are so damn hesitant all the time. Loosen up for once."
The next few minutes were silence. I really wanted to pull out my phone, but I thought it would be rude.
"You know, I absolutely love your hair," she whispered in a small voice. My head piped up. "It's like nothing I've seen before. Like space almost. Speaking of space, Luna Constella. Pretty name. Like 'Lunar Constellation,'" she rambled.
"That's kind of the point. My parents thought it would be hilarious. I hate it," I grumbled, looking up at the trees. She sighed. I felt like I wasn't helping--I felt relentless. "Well, Ara Bella, I feel as if this moment couldn't be any more awkward. Now, tell me about you. I am willing to listen."
Her cheeks blushed again. "Erm...uh..," she stammered, "well, I am an extreme introvert-"
"No shit," I laughed, rolling my eyes. She stared at her fingers. "Sorry, go on. What's home like for you?"
"Jeez, therapy session?" She laughed. I shook my head and smiled. "Well... That's a hard topic. My dad is uh... I guess you can say a bit pushy. My mother is too scarred to face him, damn it. I am an only child. I never really brought a boy or girl home before, since my dad would go batshit crazy, probably. So yeah. Home life..." She trailed off.
I nodded. "So he doesn't even allow you to have friends over? I can see him not allowing boys but damn..."
Her face flustered for about the millionth time. "About that," she mumbled, "I'm actually bi..."
"Oh!" I answered in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry! I know how that feels. I am gay myself, but uh. Erm..."
I prayed to God or any power that the subject would change.
"Anyways," she quickly said practically yelling over our awkward chuckling, "why do you like me anyways? Don't you see me as easy prey?"
"What?" I shook myself out of my giggles.
"I just supposed since..." Ara Bella whispered.
"Listen, whatever you fucking heard about me isn't always true, alright? I am sick of the 'she's a blah blah' bullshit. The one time I actually make a decent friend, it gets sabotaged by gossip and whatnot," I choked, feeling defensive.
"I'm so sorry-"
"You know what," I spat, fighting back tears. "You should see what it feels like to be talked behind your back like you're nothing-"
"You think I don't know what it feels like to be talked about and treated like nothing?! Shit, Luna, are you oblivious? For all my life I have been known as dust. Do you seriously think my life has been full of lovely compliments and crap? No! You even know it damn well that I am just a freaking background character. Kids just see me as the girl that sits in the back. They take shit from me, they talk shit in front of me-- Even my damn parents treat me like nothing. Talk about 'being treated like nothing-' that's my whole fucking life in a nutshell, Constella!"
The two of us soaked in what happened.
"I'm sorry," Ara Bella apologized. I smiled. "What?"
"I just made Ara Bella Smith crack."
She rolled her eyes. "Stop it, you dork."
