Icy cold wind whipped against Sabre's cheeks but that had no effect on cooling her fiery mood. Dark shadows played around her riding boots as she trudged through the newly thawing grass. Then she stopped. She had reached the bright ocean around her island, the place where she had first learned about the dragon guardians of fire and ice. The memory seeped in, as she remembered how kind they were to her and what they gave her. A smile crept up her lips and she took a deep breath, the air stung her lungs but she did'nt care, she thrust out her index and middle finger with as much strength as she could muster into the air above the water. Bright flames played upon her fingers and danced on the water, heating it. The smoke was clear to her and her smile turned to a smirk, she held her hand out and pointed her long nails towards the smoke, she slowly rode her arm, inch by inch and the smoke crystallized joining and pulling the water to form a huge spike barrier of ice. She clenched her fist. The ice fell as she turned and walked back to her broken home. Her ‘family’ was no longer what they seemed they had lied to her because she was a hybrid, a darkangel, half dragon half guardian. The wrath of the dragons which they had brought upon themselves, the fire guardian had told her that what their kind had done was meant to be.......

"Hey, what's your name?" asked someone pulling her out of her thoughts as she neared the village. She turned and saw a teenage boy and his friends “Sabre, now get lost.”

“Whoa, we just want your help.”

“With what?”

“There’s something in the ice and we want to dig it out. Will you help?”

“We’ll see”

Sabre turned and followed the boy as he led her to the ice, wondering what could be in there. He stopped and it took her a moment to realize but then she stopped too. “Look”, he said softly and pointed to a wavered and disoriented figure encased is twisted ice. She waved her hand and the ice moved so it was straight. The figure became clear. The boy looked, blinked and looked again. She gasped. A saber. She quickly blew on the ice which instantly caught fire and melted. The boys all took a step back but she took a step front. She drew a ball of fire in her hand and assumed a fighting stance to the saber with the faintly setting sun at her back.

“Whoa, I’m not going to kill you girl”, said the saber. “What’s your name?” she asked, “Rieko”, he replied, “what’s yours?”

“Sabre” She answered. The boys had run off by now and sabre was alone with Rieko. “Maybe we’ll find more of your kind if we keep looking but for now, you need to eat”, she said to Rieko. Sabre took Rieko back to her small village where all the villagers shied away or looked apprehensive at her and Rieko. He growled and she smiled, maybe they would be good friends. It took her aback that Rieko had come with her.

At midnight, she stirred and got up. She walked outside and found Rieko sleeping in a cave, she walked on for a while then a low, faint whirr that sounded like wood sounded behind her. She whipped around but no one was there. She turned back and saw an old woman in front of her merely a foot away, she was just a little shorter than Sabre and she looked around as if scared before handing Sabre a small pouch. “Keep it safe and follow every word. You will find your destiny. We shall meet again darkangel”, she whispered before disappearing into the woods..........
