The Way It Was (A Niall Horan FanFic)

Chapter Two

NIALL'S POV

"Hello?" I yell as I enter Layla's house slowly. I hear a gasp and footsteps running up stairs. Hmm, I wonder if that was Layla?

Eliza, Layla's mother pops up "Oh, hello Niall! It's so nice to see you again!" She hugs me warmly. Eliza has always been like a second mother to me.

"Nice to see you too Eliza," I say with a smile, "Where's Layla?"

"Oh, she's upstairs somewhere. Layla! Niall's here!" She yells upstairs. I hear footsteps walking down the stairs. Oh god! Why am I so nervous?

LAYLA'S POV

"Layla! Niall's here!" My mum shouts at me. Oh no! What am I gonna say? What am I gonna do? Ugh! I am so nervous! Should I tell him that I love him? I walk down the stairs slowly and start walking as slow as possible to the living room. I enter and there stands Niall in all his beauty. I swear those eyes of his have gotten bluer. All those magazines have not done him justice for he looks so different then when he left but different in a good way. His blonde hair is shorter and in a quiff and he has definitely gotten more muscular.

"Hello Niall," I say cautiously, "It's been awhile."

"Yea, it has been. Why have you been ignoring my calls lately? Was it something I did?" He asks anxiously.

"No! It's nothing you did, Niall. It's just...can we just talk about this later?" I ask avoiding answering, "Right now I just wanna hug my bestfriend." Niall nods and gives me a big hug.

"I've missed you, Layla. More than you will ever know." Niall whispers in my ear.

"I missed you too, Niall." I say back silently crying. I wish we could stay like this forever, just standing here with our arms wrapped around each other. I won't lie, I love the feeling of being this close to him. It makes me feel safe and loved.

"Hey, Layla? Do wanna go to an amusement park with me tonight?" Niall asks with a smile.

"Of course! When are we leaving?" I ask drying my eyes.

"In thirty minutes. See ya then." Niall smiles brightly at me then walks to the guest room. I watch his back until he walks out of sight. Did he just ask me out on a date? No it's just a friendly outing that's all. I frown, disappointed. I just sigh and walk up to my room to freshen up.

NIALL'S POV

When I reach the guest room I've stayed in so many times I sit on the bed and just smile. I'm happy that she wasn't mad at me but I'm wondering why she didn't ever call or answer my calls. She said she would tell me tonight so I guess I have to wait. I sigh. She sure has gotten prettier over the years. Her grew longer, she is definitely not that scrawny little sixteen year old I left behind three years ago. She's now so much more beautiful. But those green eyes of hers haven't changed. I can just look into her gorgeous emerald eyes and see the day we first met.

FLASHBACK

"Mummy! Can I go play on the swings?" I say as I give my mum the puppy dog eyes.

"Of course, baby. Be careful though!" She yells after me but I don't hear here as I run full speed towards the swing set. When I get there I see the last swing get taken by a girl around my age.

"Hey! I was about to get that swing!" I yell at the girl with my arms crossed.

She looks startled "Oh! Well, maybe we can take turns," she says with a smile, "You can push me while I swing and then when it's your turn I can push you!" She looked very satisfied with herself for the idea. I just nod my head and start pushing her.

"My names Layla by the way! What's yours?" Layla yells from in the air.

"Niall. My names Niall! Your pretty Layla." I say nervously.

Layla giggles "Thank you, Niall! Do you wanna be my new best friend?!"

"Yeah!" I scream while smiling like an idiot.

END OF FLASHBACK

I had loved her since I first set eyes on her. I look at the time and realize I had daydreamed for twenty minutes. So I just walk downstairs and wait for Layla. Shortly she walks down the stairs wearing short jean shorts and an off the shoulder top that says bonjour across the front.

"You ready?" I ask smiling excitedly.

"Yeah!" Layla says just the same way.
